Everything in life has a limit, is what Matsuo had learned very long ago from his father. He was always telling him stuff like that, making sure the boy could go on his own. Being a single parent, he was overworked enough, so he had to make sure Matsuo could take care of himself. The boy had always remembered the lesson, and it came up again in programming.
Matsuo had read at fourteen, staring at a computer monitor while smoking a cigarette, that programs cannot actually think, they just do what they tell you to do using various coding. From if statements to whatever other use of code there was out there, you could make in-game commands, automatic response to a click, or whatever the hell you wanted. But, they couldn?t decide things on your own. At least, not with current technology. It was a huge rule in all program creation. That?s why it seemed so absurd that he was in this ?Digital World.? Obviously some sort of program. As the thing floating beside him had stated: this place was made up of pure data, coding, etc. So, it held the characteristics of a program, but, disobeyed this critical rule.
?So how does it work??? Matsuo muttered, pondering over the thought. He was now walking along through forest, the fireball right beside him, just walking along, trying to figure these things out. It all seemed quite impossible to him. ?Some guy must have an uber amount of time to program every response and all of that into this world. All the voice responses and all. Either that, or he has some extreme ninja skillz at programming.?
?What was that?? DemiMeramon zoomed in towards Matsuo, interested in his new partner?s words. Shocked by the sudden closeness of his digimon, Matsuo jumped to the side of the path, tripping over a tree root and tumbling into a bunch of bushes. He let out a groan after it was all over, while his partner rushed over.
?Are you alright?? DemiMeramon inquired, looking a bit worried. ?I?m sorry; I got a bit close there.?
?That?s an understatement.? Matsuo got up and brushed everything off him. He felt a slight pain sensation in his arms, which was surprising. He figured out that he was data as well, but how would someone program pain like this? He had no health meter. No nothing. He shook it off for the moment and put it on his ?think about later list.? He needed more information, so he could find out what was going on, so he could stop saying ?OMGWTFBBQ!? at everything. ?But, I?m fine.?
Matsuo noticed that his 7-Eleven uniform had been a bit torn by the fall, so he threw it off, leaving just a dress shirt and his average jeans. He continued to walk along the trail. The fireball floated after him.
?Are you sure you are ok?? The digimon questioned.
?Yes, I?m fine.? Matsuo took out another cigarette and lit it using his partner. ?I?m just a bit confused about this still. It?s all rather sudden to be here you know. So, I have a few questions to ask you. Is that alright??
?Anything for my partner!? The creature nodded smiling.
?Alright, first off?? Matsuo dug into his pocket and produced the thing he had found under a pile of clothes in his room before. It sort of looked like an electronic cross. ?What the hell is this? A noob toy??
?That?s your digivice! Only the digidestined get those! It?s used so I can digivolve! Become stronger! Become Rookie, Champion, Ultimate, and Mega! Then I can protect you better, partner!? DemiMeramon responded quickly.
?Alright.? Matsuo wondered why this thing was his partner and why it wanted to protect him, but it didn?t really matter, he was about to ask that anyway. ?Next up, what are we supposed to do??
His digimon stared at him. ?I thought you knew! Defend the Digital World, of course!?
?Fantastic?Well, its better then my old job.? Matsuo sighed and continue to walk onward into the world of mystery.
