Forbidding firearms doesn`t solve anything. Infact, it increases crime ratios beacuse civilians cannot defend themselves and are thus more open to attacks from criminals who get their firearms from the black market anyway. When firearms were forbidden in Britain, the crime ratios increased. So that does not help.
However, I do agree that there have to be strict criterias for one to obtain firearms and ammunition. I find it a bit disturbing how simple it is in the US to obtain a firearm. If available to just any person, firearms can cause tragedy and disaster (for example, Columbine).
Your right, Raditzu. One does not need an automatic rifle to protect himself. Besides, if properly used, a firearm with less firepower can be just as efficitient.
From a more realistic point of view, I would be happy to get a TT-33, Yugo M48 Mauser or a Kar98k. An SKS would be fine too.
