Buu shifted his feet uncomfortably. He thought the girl had some serious issues, but a bizarre feeling of unease came with the thought. But why should he feel guilty? He didn?t take responsibility for anyone else! Just keeping himself out of trouble was enough.
?If you really cared that much, you should have had more faith in me,? growled the pink monster. He took a step back towards the river, then turned his head slightly towards Violet. ?Now, you can either come back to camp with me, or you can jump off that cliff. If your life means so little to you that you would throw it away over some stupid love affair, then by all means, do it. If you let something as trivial as that get to you, you?ll die before this is all over anyway.? A cold silence passed between them before he continued. ?I honestly thought you were different from the rest of your race - a bunch of endlessly multiplying weaklings with no direction or purpose. I thought you were better than that.
?So, end this pointless charade, or I?ll just kill you myself.?
Violet was appalled. She had known the golem of puttalin was blunt, but she had at least expected him to understand; to feel remorse for leaving her alone all that time, letting her think he was dead. Her fists tightened. ?You couldn?t kill me, Super. I would tear your throat out before you got the chance.?
To the girl?s surprise, a devilish grin emerged on Buu?s face. A loud, boisterous laugh shook his frame, solidifying the look of anger on Violet?s features. ?What?s so funny?!? she demanded, taking a step towards her ally.
?That?s the spirit!? he laughed, clapping his hands encouragingly. ?Fight me, show me what you?ve got!?
The girl obliged. Her fist struck forward with the speed of a tiger, whamming into the pink majin?s face. He fell back onto his side with a groan of pain, holding his nose. Violet looked down at him, adrenaline pumping through her whole body. The bastard monster had felt that, she?d made sure of it. Then, to her surprise, he looked up, grinning. ?That almost hurt,? he said, spitting out a mixture of his own purple blood and saliva. Then, with less than a second?s delay, he leapt up, adding his own fist to the mix. It hit Violet on the side of the cheek, eliciting a cry of pain and fury, sending her to the floor.
?Bastard ?!? she hissed, staring up with fire in her eyes. Buu was standing there, cracking his fingers eagerly. ?You really want this, don?t you??
?Why would I start something I couldn?t finish?? The being cackled, that smirk still plastered across his face. ?You?re still as weak as the day I met you.?
?ARGH!? That last remark pushed Violet over the edge. She scrambled to her feet, desperate to get her hands around Buu?s throat. He sidestepped expertly, spinning to deliver a blow to the back of the girl?s head. She hit the ground face first, howling in frustration.
?Come on!? taunted the pink monster, cracking his puttalin-imitated neck muscles. ?I know you?re stronger than that!?
?You asked for it ?!? The former assassin jumped to her feet and spun, her long leg folding out and cracking into Buu?s smirking countenance. He fell back with a grunt, then stepped forward again, only to take another kick to the chest. The power behind it was like being hit with a truck, but he didn?t balk, only staggering for a second before trying again. He didn?t seem to care how many times he was hit. It had been so long since his last real fight that the pain felt like a grain of sand against the tide of relief.
?Hit me again!? he ordered, as Violet stopped for a second to catch her breath. ?Or I?ll throw your corpse to the birds!?
The girl only grimaced, and came forward again to deliver a crushing punch. This time, however, it was caught. Buu pushed her back onto the floor and stepped over her, smiling.
?Feel a little better??
?A lot better,? panted the black-suited woman. She took the hand offered by her ally and stood up, leaning forward to rest with her hands on her knees.
The monster of putty smirked. Sometimes, all people need is a little release, he thought, touching a hand to his aching nose with satisfaction. ?Come on!? he barked, stepping into the trees with a rustle. ?Let?s head back to the others.?
Violet nodded and hopped over an wayward tree root, landing next to her friend. Wiping her brow, she asked; ?did you do that on purpose to get me to join you??
Buu spat on the grass nearby, continuing his stride confidently through the brush. ?What, are you kidding? I just wanted a fight, that?s all.?
The girl had to smile as she brushed back the purple hair from her eyes. She didn?t know whether she believed him or not, but it didn?t really matter. All that mattered was that she was here with him now, and nothing was going to change that.
