He was angry. Maybe not outwardly, but he was angry. Bardock had managed to keep a level head, knowing that there was no time to be idle in the wake of the war. He had left behind the body of his grandson, leaving him the honor of remaining where he fell, a testament to his unfailing fighting spirit.
After an exchange of quips, Bardock assumed the role as head of the party, leading them to safer ground. He had taken it upon himself to claim responsibility for the welfare of his gathering, a role Raditzu had given up without a fight. As they blazed the trail, the older saiyan kept his mind blank and his face serious. The fighter had noticed the arrival of Selipa, and the option was presented to him to strike up where they had left off. He chose not to. Now wasn?t the time. The train moved along at a slow pace to accommodate the exhaustion of their power players, having expended everything to overthrow their pursuit on a moment?s notice.
The group came to a clearing, and Bardock decided this was the place to stop. He, Bra, and Selipa checked the area thoroughly before the elder saiya-jin gave the go ahead to drop anchor. The fighter approached his son, noticing a definite lag.
?You okay?? he asked, casual of question and serious of demeanor.
?Uh?yeah,? Raditzu answered slowly, reaching for his water. ?These?collars make it hard to transform.? He nodded his head over to Yamu, a presence Bar had also noticed. ?He?s probably feeling it too, though hopefully not as bad. I?m just?tired. Some bread and sleep and I?ll be as good as new.?
Bardock gave him a quick once over. There was no denying Raditzu was a symbol of strength, both in presence and in power. It was also a matter of pride; something that was ever present yet remained unspoken. ?You better be.?
He gathered firewood, more quickly this time, and lit the flame. The fire was low, and Bardock heaped a mound of earth nearby so it could be doused quickly and with no steam. Exposure was a risk he was willing to take: warmth was needed for the night. The saiyan passed by Raditzu and Eighteen when preparations had been complete. Wordlessly, he grabbed the ki shotgun from the android?s person, throwing it over his shoulder and claiming the weapon. With his free hand, he reached into his bag and pulled out a large leather-wrapped pouch, tossing it almost playfully to Raditzu, who managed to catch it. He looked at his kid with an unreadable expression, although some would have interpreted it as borderline amused. With that, Bar turned and walked away. The longhaired fighter fumbled with the wrappings with his thumb and forefinger, revealing a large hunk of smoked meat that Bardock had procured from his original location.
Bar walked the length of the camp, slowing as he passed by Bra and flashed her a fleeting form of his trademark grin. ?We make a good team.? It was there and gone, and the black-haired brawler nodded towards Sel and Yamu, not really caring as to the fate of the unfortunate woman resting in his lap. In any other circumstance, Bardock would have been at the human?s throat in an instant. In fact, he still rolled the thought along his brain. Things had complicated themselves, and when in doubt, the fighter stepped out of the hot box to observe and wait. Any misstep could be his undoing.
With a mighty leap, Bardock settled himself on the branch of a tree. His back leaned against the wood and he let one leg dangle against the trunk. The shotgun rested comfortably against his shoulder, his finger near the trigger. The fighter had become the sentinel: making sure what happened with the girl?Hasky?didn?t happen again. One handedly, he managed to feed himself as his cold black eyes stared off into the darkness. His scouter was set to sensitive mode.
It was here that he let his thoughts wander to Gohan. He had been kneeling by his grandson, torrents of rage flowing through his body. Gohan had done what he had to do. He fought with both honor and pride. Bardock respected that. Had Goh been given aid, he might have survived, and Bardock?s decision consequently may have been the signature on his death warrant. He wondered if Bra had thought the same thing, so adamant in assisting the young hybrid. The old man hoped she could understand. Still, that didn?t change the fact that Bar had let another of his kin slip through his fingers. This time, he had been right there?right there. Kakarotto was already gone. Who was next? Goten? Raditzu? Himself? Bardock clenched his jaw. What would come would come. But the next people they ran into would be sorry they ever did.
