Day Three: Early Morning
#4
"Time to wake up, happy campers!" Kami said with fake enthusiasm. The rest of the unlikely congregation awoke to the Namekian's morning call, with varied results. Both Trunks and Vegeta felt the sagging affects of ascension slip away when they reentered consciousness. Despite Kami's exuberance, his earlier power augmentation to Ultra Namekian still prevented him from transforming, as did Reijin's to Super Saiyan 2. Thirteen was in a similar boat, except worse off; his stomach was still aching, and he prayed that no one punched him there.

"Just five more minutes," Trunks complained, turning over on the grass, using his folded blue jacket as a pillow.

"Get up, son," Vegeta ordered, climbing to his feet. "We're not camping."

Trunks, definitely not being a morning person, rolled his eyes at his father's sternness. In any other circumstance, he would've listened and agreed, especially because of their current predicament. However, grogginess was a terrible thing, and threw Trunks slightly out of character.

"All right, all right," the saiyan prince moaned in compliance, slipping his jacket back on. "I suppose we'd better get moving."

The group saddled their gear, and once everyone was prepared, they started moving out. They all knew they had to keep mobile until they were rejuvenated again. Staying still was not an option for any of them.

Trunks, feeling particularly bold, moved his presence next to Reijin. The pure blood saiyan's composure didn't change in the least as Trunks started talking to him.

"Nice day, huh?" Trunks asked, devoid of any anger or resentment. "Well, for an island where everyone's killing each other."

Reijin smirked. "Of course. Every day is a nice day when you're killing inferiors." He waited for the so very suspected outburst from Trunks, but it didn't come. Slightly perplexed, he stayed silent as the hybrid continued.

"Reijin, let me just say this," Trunks stated, forgoing the small talk. "You know I dislike you--"

"Dislike might be a bit weak," Reijin interrupted.

"However," Trunks spoke, ignoring the saiyan, "I'm not going to let it affect this alliance. Expect no hostility while we are working together. I'm going to honour father's wishes. Of course, if our group gets disbanded from one reason or another, all bets are off."

"You speak as if this is new," Reijin responded carelessly. He shrugged his shoulders. "Anyway, it's not me who has the vendetta."

"Good, then," Trunks stated, concluding his speech. He instantly left his side and moved next to the king of saiyans.

"Father," he said, walking at the front of the pack.

"Hmm?" he responded, keeping his constant survey of the landscape current.

Trunks looked at his feet for a moment, and then reached his hand to his right earlobe. He detached his Potarra earring and clenched it in his hand. "I... want you to hold onto this."

"Onto what?" Vegeta enquired. Trunks opened his hand, revealing the singular ornament. "Any reason?"

Trunks almost blushed before he spoke. "Because... if anything ever happens to me... whether it's on this island, or perhaps somewhere beyond this place... I just want you to have something to... to remember me by." It was incredibly hard for Trunks to offer the Potarra earring. The jewelry became something he used to define himself, to signify the new person he was the instant he was fused. To offer it to anyone was, indeed, a miracle.

Vegeta's stone hard countenance stayed the same. He looked at the mystical earring, evaluating what Trunks said. He smirked for an instant, but as quickly as he did, it faded. Without saying a word, the king of saiyans reached for the earring and took it from his son, storing it in his pocket.

Trunks smiled. He knew his father. Although it was a rare occasion that Vegeta expressed his emotions, Trunks could spot them easily. This was no different. He knew Vegeta missed him as much as he missed Vegeta. They always spent long periods of time apart. At least now, Trunks knew that he would be on the patriach's mind at least a little more often.

#26, Goten.

Trunks had tuned out the flamboyant voice of Karl Jak, but upon hearing the name of his comrade in the list of the fallen, it took him no time to regard it. The halfling sighed and looked away.

Goten... he thought. Finally, we were together again...
