If it weren't for his insights GPS would be crud, and I think you know how useful GPS has been. I'll point one out; it helps TV satellites stay in tehir orbit to high precision, something that most people in the world take for granted. kthnx
Also, it doesn't matter what his grades were. The fact that he was able to invent the theory of special relativity, come up with a solution to brownian motion, and explain the photoelectric effect while working in the patent office makes me believe that the fact that he was able to skip class a lot and go off with his girlfriend and get notes form his friend doesn't undermind his intellgience.
