I look at it this way: you're not writing the actual fight, but the outcome is determined by everything else. BJ didn't just flip a coin to decide fights in the last DA, the better RPers won (more or less). So, while you're not writing the fight itself, you're still writing the fight.
In this new saga, though, it looks like movement and Unit composition will play a pretty big part as well as Roleplaying. So even if you didn't make the best post, you could compensate by trying to second-guess opponent's tactics and favored units.
