It was true. The saiya-jin heir, once proud and mighty, was now huddled in the mud. Sweat and dirt coated his noble brow, trickling off in salty trails. He crouched on elbows and knees; his head drooped. Beneath his thatch of spiked ebony locks, the prince?s face was screwed up in anger. His gloved hands clenched fistfuls of mud, the material of the cloth torn and dirtied from their once pristine white.
The changeling Zale was smirking, circling his prey like a hungry vulture. His voice was an amused one. ?The Crown Prince and still being whooped by a peasant. How is that even possible??
Vegeta growled. Not one to be kept down, the royal leapt up, preparing to strike. Within half a blink of an eye, Zale had twisted around, spinning his large tail along with him. The prince felt the sting of flesh as the living whip slapped him in the face, hitting his jaw at a right angle. His head rotated sharply, and he felt himself slip in and out of consciousness, once again hitting the floor. Vegeta slipped and slid along the runny ground, his regal armor becoming even more sloshed down in the earthy sludge.
Zale continued his tirade, completely unfazed by his opponent?s futile attempts. ?Pathetic. You know Raditzu has reached a higher plateau already?? The changeling turned to face Vegeta?s fallen body, squaring off and smirking. ?You remember Raditzu? Your sworn rival??
The prince grimaced and lifted himself up. He clenched his teeth and snarled, feeling the needle in the nerve. ?Shut up??
?Imagine that long-haired infidel, his great black mane glowing with gold, a legendary power running through his veins, pumping freely with the blood of a boor,? the changeling continued, ignoring the saiya-jin.
?That means you can?t beat him. You?re?nothing!? the prince growled, nostrils flared. ?But me?I?ll beat anything that?s in my way.?
Vejita rose to his feet, held up by his irrepressible determination. A quiet rage slowly seethed through his consciousness at the thought of his most hated adversary transforming into a Super Saiyan. If that ridiculous-looking warrior could ascend, then Vegeta would be damned if he wasn?t going to become one as well. Still, it was hard to suppress the anger that seized his heart. He tried to shrug it off, not wanting Zale to worm away at his weakness.
?Rising again only to fall?? Zale snickered.
?Nothing is certain until death, and even then you couldn?t keep me from killing you. One way or another, you?ll fall by my hand,? Vegeta boasted. As an afterthought, he added, ?Bitch.?
?Ooh, are we reduced to profanities, now??
?Enough talk!? the royal ordered.
The prince shifted his weight onto the balls of his feet and then dashed forward. At the last possible second, he jerked to the side and then came in for an uppercut, eyes wary of the icer?s malevolent tail. Despite his change in tactic, Zale was able to outmaneuver his foe yet again. In a blur of speed, the changeling warped behind Vegeta, and brutally kicked the back of his head. The saiya-jin heir stumbled forward until he toppled onto the ground. Zale maintained the position of his three-toed foot, gripping the three on Vejita?s skull.
With vicious cruelty, he began to grind the blue blood?s face into the mud, a grin of twisted pleasure plastered on his purple face. After having that bit of fun, he leaned down, resting an elbow on his knees, and the icer lowered his face so he could speak close to Vegeta?s ear.
?Do you know what I?m going to do after I kill you? I?m going to go after your children,? he stated matter-of-factly.
Vegeta?s eyes snapped open at the words, then quickly narrowed. He moved his mouth to say, ?Don?t you touch them!? but his face was too smashed in the earth and it came out as a muffled roar. The anger that had been slowly welling up within his core began to boil. It only worsened as Zale began to go into the details of his plot.
?First I?ll go after Trunks. He?s pretty strong. Should provide some good sport. Maybe I?ll mount his head on my wall?if I don?t melt it off his shoulders first. Then I?ll move on to your daughter. I?ll smack her around a little, and then??
What he said next was only said in whisper, and was said with a malicious smile. With each word, Vegeta screamed louder and louder in rage. The icer straightened his back and laughed before suddenly turning serious.
?What are you going to do? Stop me? You can?t even get up. Pathetic prince! Wallowing in the mud like a stuck pig. Too weak to even save yourself. And you thought you could take Raditzu? YOU CAN?T EVEN BEAT ME!!?
Vejita?s eyes squeezed shut. Raditzu, the Super Saiyan. And now his children were going to suffer, unless he could do something. But something was happening. His rage had become so great he felt like he was going to explode. Every fiber of muscle was swimming in it, saturated by it. He didn?t even feel Zale?s hoof leave his head. For some reason, the changeling was backing away in hesitation. Veins protruded on the prince?s head, and they slowly snaked outwards, pulsing thickly. Vegeta?s eyes opened.
They were turquoise.
As if lifted by some holy wind, the saiyan?s body levitated off the ground and righted itself. Zale stared in awe as his foe rose into the air, elevating above his horizon. Vegeta?s body convulsed and his muscles twitched. A golden light began to emanate from his seizing frame. Thin trails of bright blue electricity snapped and crackled about his caramel-colored aura. The changeling realized what was happening, and he rushed in to stop it before it was too late.
When Zale reached close to the glowing prince, he suddenly rammed into a wall of energy. His body was electrocuted by the sheer output of power, and he was blasted backwards, bolts of electricity crackling over his burned flesh. He could not overcome his enemy.
Vegeta was grunting and groaning from the undiluted energy that had awakened from within. It was unlike anything he had ever felt before, and it was as intoxicating as it was painful. Borne of rage, the prince was being remade. His black spikes flashed gold before returning to their raven color, and then flashed flaxen once more, this time to stay.
As quickly as it had come, the electricity faded, and the blue blood grew silent. Zale cowered on the ground, completely awed by what he had witnessed. Vegeta silently floated back to the ground, his body illuminated by a golden glow.
The eyes. The hair.
He was?
?a Super Saiyan.
On bold impulse, Zale charged.
Vegeta stood perfectly, except for his arm, which he slowly drew back. Zale closed in. He was stopped short by the appendage that rammed through his midsection, impaling him. The prince stared past the changeling?s shoulder.
?Let?s try this again. This time, your face is in the dirt.?
