The final rays of sun dissipated over the horizon as the soldiers stepped from Briarwood Forest. The men were tired, cold, though they welcomed the fact that they were leaving the eerie forest behind. A flat plain lay ahead of them, leading up to a plateau that overlooked a blackened sea. Looking at the map, Broli could tell where they were. Other than that, however, the darkened landscape only served to block any real recognition of where they were.
?We?ll camp here tonight,? King Vegeta announced. Broli nodded in agreement. Vejita I motioned towards the trees. ?Cut down a supply for the campfires. Twenty men to a fire.?
With no further bidding, the men began tearing down the barrier of trees in which they had escaped, an expected joy occurring for those who felt a particular bitterness towards the natural beings.
Within the hour, camps covered the landscape like ants to a dying insect. Huddling around the campfires, men conversed joyously, their inexperience to battle attributing a morale that grew only higher with each hour?s passing. Under the Commanders? discretion, the men had been allowed to break out the wine, and so they drank and continued to grow closer with their peers.
In the darkness away from a campfire, King Vegeta and Broli stood, looking into the obscurity of the distance. Broli folded his arms. ?The air is thin? The other forces are already at the move.?
The Saiya-Jin?s king nodded in agreement. ?This is not competition? It?s a war, and it?s not going to be won easily.?
The younger Saiyan let out a deep sigh. ?Let?s hope that things work in our favor.? Placing a hand on the king?s shoulder, Broli left the darkness and approached the campfire.
Taking a seat on a log, a nearby soldier handed him a bottle of wine, and with that, he began laughing and drinking with his men.
