The night had fallen, and admidst the loud cries of the tavern's people, things were beginning to quiet down fairly early in order for the fisherman to awaken early morning. Reijin had already informed them that the soldiers were to sleep early as well, and that anyone with a hangover would be sent to the front lines with it. He could sleep against the dock simply listening to the waves lap at the splintered wood and feel the gentle rock of the boat he was laying in. It was a peaceful end to yet another uneventful evening, but he knew from his scouts' reports that the enemy was over the horizon preparing for them.
His mind wandered in his sleep, playing the coming fight from every angle and living every possible scenario in advance so that nothing caught them by surprise. They would allow the enemy to be flanked, hopefully catching them off guard and forcing them to cease all production and to retreat within their keep.
He awoke to the sounds of a dockhand shouting to the fishermen to bring in their catch for the night, and his eyes flickered open to see Saiba curled up on his chest. A low growl arose within his chest and he lifted the sleeping creature up by the nape of its neck, only for it to hang limply while still snoring. Leaning to the left, he dropped the saibaman over the side into the water, hearing the cold and shocked cry of the creature as he climbed out onto the dock.
Reijin saw the dock workers looking at him and he shrugged. "Its like a dog," he explained. Turning back to the shore, he saw Saiba shaking himself dry at the water's edge before reaching for his hat and throwing it on his head backwards, before giving a small pose.
Shaking his head, Reijin simply walked past the creature and through the center of the town, reaching out an arm to grab a nearby soldier. "What is the status of the black army?" he inquired, making sure to attract the attention of the nearby townsfolk.
Lethargically, the soldier yawned while nodding north. "They seem as if they are still camping but they seem to be preparing to launch an assault on the town in hopes of destroying us," he said, speaking a preplanned speach for the sake of the town.
On cue, Reijin picked up where he ended with a nod of his own. "We can't risk the town's safety. Let's take the fight to them and try to get the jump on them to hopefully defeat them before their burn squads try to destroy the city. These demonic warriors need to learn to leave these people alone."
The soldier nodded and turned to run to the others to prepare the squad to leave. Reijin looked around and smiled deceptively as an even darker smile spread within. Who cared as to the outcome as long as they did what he needed them to do? He turned and approached the army, knowing that today was going to be a long day when they launched their assualt.
