Tch, I'm ashamed to admit it but my first Metroid game was Fusion. It was love at first kill-everything-in sight. Since then I've gone back and played the others.
They weren't vital to completing the game. You could just find 'em if you poked around a little. Wall-jump was doable from the start of the game, just it's not in the instruction manual or anything and etecoons show you how to do it.
God, wall-jumping up that mine-shaft type place was hell.
