No he ate his lower torso. To gain his own fighting spirit. To become WOLVERINE SQUARED!

Also, Wolverine's not cool because he's overpowered.

He's actually just slightly underpowered.

The reason for this is he's Canadian.

They had to tone down his awesomeness so the Americans wouldn't get jealous.
