Self taught doesn't matter. Angus Young learned from watching his brother play, Jimmy Paige only had a few months of technical training, among others. Eddie didn't suck, Malmsteen was just better. Eruption remains the best guitar solo ever.

Back in Black is a classic album. There was something on the radio not too long ago where they played the greatest 100 albums ever, Back In Black came in third. Many people consider Angus Young one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) guitarist ever. The riff to Back in Black is the most popular guitar riff ever. She Shook Me All Night Long has one of the best solos ever recorded. What chu talkin' 'bout Willis? =(

Ozzy was better in Black Sabbath, but through his solo career he discovered the brilliance of Frank Zappa, Zakk Wylde and Randy Rhodes. But yeah, Black Sabbath > Ozzy solo career.

I knew you'd bring up eruption. Though Van Halen remains 1 of my favorite bands, eruption and Eddie Van Halen's pickslides and new use of distortion are all the band really has. Again, self teachers are more creative - better song writers. Eddie's biggest talent was tapping, though that takes many less years of practice to perfect than typical "shredding." Jimmy Page, again, wasn't much of a guitarist. He was, however, an amazing song writer. A guitar teacher at any music store you can find will most likely be 2x better than he was at playing guitar, but they probably can't write a riff half as good as he.

Back in Black, regardless of how it "sounds," remains a joke to guitarists everywhere. Leave it at that. Angus isn't even a guitarist. Learn to play his songs on guitar. The most simplistic songs ever. Once you actually learn to play an instrument, your whole sense of music changes. Shook me all night long is 3 chords. 7 Notes added in during the chorus. The solo wasn't even his. It was basically the Stairway to Heaven solo played slower, with a "bluesy" backtone.

The only reason "Back in Black" is referred to as one of the greatest rock riffs ever is because...well....simply, the band got lucky. I like to listen to their music occasionally....but listen to other bands. It also seems to be that the most underground a band is, the better they are. Randy Rhodes also turned to be out a fart of a jackass.

Here we go, AC/DC is 'too simple'. That's the whole point, they have been playing the same song for 30 years and still pwn. That's rock and roll. There's no bullshit involved, it's just a Gibson SG plugged into a Marshall. No effects, no distortion (a few times maybe), no fucking with the tone knob, they just rock the house. They don't keep it simple, they keep it primal. Everyone can relate to it and love the hell out of it.

Angus is my hero. I play guitar. I will entertain that foolishness no further.

Jimmy Paige wasn't a great guitarist.... um, ok? Dazed and Confused.... with a fuxing violin bow? Exploring damn near every tuning known to man? A pioneer of the heavy metal sound? =| Have you heard 'Since I Been Lovin You'?
