Day One: Evening
#23
The dusty chess board was a suprise find among the boxes and other storage containers within the lighthouse. Kami and Captain Jack seemed content to stay put for the time being, but not sensing any urgent need to venture outwards. They both had plans to carry out for this little scuffle and running out first thing and getting all beat to hell wasn't part of those plans.

Jack was keeping himself busy going through boxes and cupboards, endlessly searching for another bottle of rum. Kami knew the pirate was far more than he appeared, so he kept an ear on him just incase. He assumed the pirate was doing just as much if not more.

With a deep breath Kami knocked the dust away from the board and set it down on the table. Jack saw what the Namek was doing and paused from his rum search for a moment. 'What ya got there mate?" Jack said as he swaggered over to the Namek.

"It's a chess board. I don't feel much like fighting at the moment, and you don't look much like you do either. It'll help pass the time and keep our minds focused." Kami started setting up pieces.

"I dunno mate, I'd much rather keep drinkin'." Jack rested his trusty bottle on the table top. "But it does beat doing nothing." He moved one of the pawns on his side forward.

"So I'd assume you're familiar with the game then?" Kami moved one of his own pieces and took a seat.

"Naturally, we pirates don't spend all our time at sea pillaging, plundering or otherwise running the ship. We get other flithy skalliwags to do that for us." Jack moved another piece along the board. Both were already in a rather strategic mood because of the game surrouding them and with each passing move the chess board began to resemble the island they resided upon.

Slowly the conversation halted and their thoughts drifted away from the game at hand, more so towards the direction they each hoped to take this tournament and their reasons for being there.

Kami simply wanted a good fight, and if he won, all the better. He wasn't so sure about Jack's motives, but for the time being it wasn't a bad thing to have him around. The chess pieces shuffled around the board again and again. Each move calcuated often in advance.

"You see," Jack began, "The thing about playing with a pirate..." he made another move and took one of Kami's pieces, "is that you never know what we'll do next."

Kami chuckled to himself. Jack gave him a curious look, "Is that because you're unpredictable, or you just make things up as you go along?"
