Raditzu Wrote:1) Drawing power.
All that means is that the strength of the weapon is relative to the strength of the user. This is for balancing purposes. A sword wielded by Nori wouldn't do as much damage as Raditzu wielding the same sword. Its like throwing a punch. Rad punches harder than most, so his weapon is more powerful than most.
Its easiest to think of a Sync Weapon as an extra arm. You can swing it just as hard as your actual arm, and it hits just as hard. Its also just as resilient. So the only way someone could break it is if they could actually break your arms. Follow?
2) What about ki weapons?
Sync weapon > ki weapon. Basically. If you want a more IC description:
During their studies of ki manipulation, Capsule Corp discovered many warriors with the ability to force ki to take the shape of a dagger, sword, or similar weapon; using this as a basis for further research, CC researchers discovered that fusing these techniques into already solid, tangible items increased the potency and effectiveness of said techniques. As a result, the Sync Blade is, on average, slightly more powerful than ki weapons. Though they certainly lack the flare of making a sword out of light.
So someone with a Sync Sword isn't going to just rip through someone else's Ki Sword, but they're going to be able to do more damage (with less drain) than their opponent.
3) Will it have different metal types?
No. Metal Binding will be unable to affect Sync Weapons. The explanation would look something like this:
While researching ways of infusing weapons with ki, CC stumbled upon the vaunted Metal Binding technique of Lord Vine. Though the theory behind the technique was certainly applicable, the Sync system proved be more reliable, stable, and efficient in the long run. To prevent a wielder of a Sync Weapon being rendered unarmed by someone with Metal Binding, CC constructed the Sync System in such a way that outside ki cannot be weaved through the weapon. Unfortunately, this means Metal Binding cannot be used to further strengthen a weapon.
4) Bypass the system altogether?
People with Metal Binding can already bypass this by using katchin, or other high-grade metals, to create weapons. There won't be much OOC difference between an MB weapon and a Sync Weapon, since MB already uses a person's ki as a base for its strength. The biggest factor, however, is that not many people have MB, but everyone has zeni. There's also something cool about just having a weapon.
As far as OOC differences go, a character technically has to expend ki to create a MB weapon, and then continually focus ki into the metal to maintain its strength. Ki has to be spent in order to do anything changes the shape of the metal. Sync Weapons can't change shape, but they don't require any ki to hold or swing.
Nori was the one asking the questions, at the time. Bra posed the following:
Bra Wrote:Would characters who already have ki weapon best moves be allowed to swap them for something else due to the advent of non-ki weapons?
The answer is "yes." And, on the topic of Best Moves, here's something else Nori asked:
Nori Wrote:Can you use techniques in conjunction with these weapons?
Like, I dunno. Have it coated in Ki to make it more powerful, or just, something to expand it's usage beyond that of a normal weapon.
Which I answered with:
Raditzu Wrote:You could have moves based on the weapon, but you wouldn't be able to do anything to make it more powerful.
So coating it in ki to make it stronger wouldn't work (see the my answer about Metal Binding for an IC explanation), but using, for example, a sword to shoot a shockwave of ki would be fine.
