The character and circumstance should rule the story, not the writer. I don't believe that you have been established as a strong ally of Pikkon's IC, have you? Retane has sort of been to him, so it makes sense that he would help him. I love it when people do things their character would do rather than what might benefit or seem logical in the OOC side of things, even if they might become unpopular because of it. Exempli gratia, what Minoshia did in DA to Civil Unrest. I completely understand him doing that, and you score points with me by doing that (doing what your character would do).
