Aye, but to be honest, ki is so incredibly versatile there's not much you couldn't do with it that the elements could do. I mean, there is stuff you can do, but for the most part I agree with Pan. Ki is just so damn malleable; you can use it to make invisible walls, swords, energy beams ... wuteverlol.

For DBA I wanted to incorporate more elements, and so I did a square system where there are only 4 actual techniques (Fire, Water, Earth, Air) and by combining them you can get the cool stuff like controlling ice, plant matter, lightning etc. But Chubbs is focusing on actually creating the element and using it more as a flavour thing (Metal Binding excluded, since you can use that to build stuff), and for those purposes I think they're cool with the DMC-esque Fire/Ice/Lightning trio.
