For an idea on how extensive the work was that went into CoD4's single-player:
The Chernobyl/Pripyat area and surrounding rural areas in-game are almost exactly identical to the real thing, right down to the design of the buildings/etc. It's spectacular. In fact, I think there's a CoD4/real life Chernobyl comparo thing on Youtube that shows what I'm talking about. It's amazing. The fact they went to that much effort to make such a faithful recreation shows how serious they were about making a good game.
