League of Legends
There's a definitely a learning curve, but Riot has significantly improved the early-game experience. The new tutorial is actually helpful and the bots are marginally less drain-dead.

Honestly, the most important skill for people to learn early game is how to last-hit minions without pushing your lane towards the enemy tower. Initially it will seem counter-intuitive because keeping the enemy huddled under their tower will make you feel like you're "winning" but it actually makes you VERY susceptible to someone walking up from behind and killing you. Start a practice game and try limiting yourself to one auto-attack per minion and see how much gold you can get.

It absolutely should go in the Gaming forum, by now. I guess its just here because that's where people know to find it.

Depends on what you like about Alistair. He's about as good as it gets in terms to straight disruption. Gragas can fulfill a similar role, though not quite as effectively.

If you just like playing the beefy tank, you'll probably get more mileage out of Shen or Rammus, both of whom have skills to help them soak up damage (which aren't as effective as Alistair's ultimate, but are available far more often) and both have taunts and skills to help teammates.

The real trick to Alistair is patience. You're only going to get a couple of spell casts per fight, so you have to make sure you use them as effectively as possible.

We've tested a few iterations of the minion hotfix patch to make sure we solved the issues. Here are the changes;

* Additional cannon minions begin spawning at 35 minutes instead of 20 minutes.

* Cannon minion turret resistance reverted to its original value of 50% instead of 65%.

* Minion damage versus turrets reduced to 50%, from 60%.

These changes will be shipping once we get the deploying process completed. They have tested well internally and are much less extreme than what we see on live currently. We'll continue to monitor the issue and react if needed.

For when you guys start your client and see that it downloaded something.

So, I played this briefly when it first hit the boards, but how easy would you say this is to pick up? There has to be something awesome about this I missed before for everyone to still be playing it.

With the addition of Co-Op vs AI I think it will be a lot easier to pick up. The bots are pretty smart and introduce new players to use of Summoner Spells, roaming, ganks, 5-man pushes, etc.

My brother just started playing again (played, like, 2 games during beta) and says he really like the 3v3 map more than the 5v5, because the games are faster and he can get in more, which lets him experiment with more champions/items/whatever and that's the key to the game. Just getting to know the items and the champion skills is 90% of it.

Yeah, what Kaden said seconded. The new bots make it much easier to learn to play without getting stomped on by people who "smurf" because they are bad or tired of losing.

Hm. Seems fun so far. Picked a nub character(lowest difficulty I could find) Miss Fortune and it's pretty fun. Made the mistake of picking one with the highest "Purple bar" earlier =D

I actually had that bookmarked for a while, intending to post it here.

Then I just never did.

Ok, so I found out that I like (in order how how well I've done with them):

Malphite
Alistar
Tyrmadere

Any suggestions?

Drop Alistar while you're learning the game.

Substitute Tryndamere for another, safer, hyper-carry like Gangplank (before anyone says anything: 1) fuck you and 2) he's WAY safer than Tryndamere -- you all know it -- and still builds off the same, stupid RNG mechanic).

If you liked Alistar because you liked tanking, try a game or two with Shen or Rammus.

Malphite. So many people lock in a carry and then yell "OMG WE NEED TANK". By just picking a tank, you solve that entire problem. Alistar is also tanky, the problem is getting into the fight. With Malphite, you R and interrupt their entire team. With Alistar, you R and then chase slowly after them, probably headbutting one or more of them out of range of your team.

I'd recommend Rammus over Shen, but both are quite easy to pick up and effective to use (which is why they're banned 90% of the games I play).

Thanks man! Yeah, I've been digging on Tryndamere's ability to stomp muggs but he's hard to keep alive. I liked Al cause he can really help keep the pressure off of you and sort of divert others the other way. I like Malphite cause he kills things lol

Thanks for the advice man.

EDIT: Holy shit everybody is super helpful lol Thanks guys!

If that's what you liked about Alistair, then I'd actually recommend Janna. She's actually the first champion I ever played and still one of my favorite (and commonly considered the hands-down best support champion in the game).
