General Gaming Thread
Seriously. I had to call three stores to find one that had just gotten a new shipment. By the time I got there, there was only one copy left.

While I was buying it the clerk was asking me about the game. He had never actually heard of it before its release but figured there had to be some reason that they couldn't keep it on the shelves.

That good, hey?

I was unimpressed with SCIV and SF4.

Would I still potentially like BlazBlue? There are tons of copies at my local EB. Just not sure I want it. Entertaining myself with Fable II (yeah, yeah, I know...) atm; was pleasantly surprised with the purchase.

If you like fighting games, I definitely recommend BlazBlue. The combat system seems relatively simple at first glance and has a remarkable amount of depth to it if you really want to sit down and master it.

The characters are all incredibly cool and each has their own "drive" mechanic that gives them unique abilities. The "main" character, for example, Ragna absorbs small amounts of life with each drive attack he does. The anti-hero, Jin, can freeze someone in place for a couple seconds, which gives all kinds of openings. Other characters can create gusts of wind that affect everything else on the screen, control marrionettes, activate or disable weapons, and more stuff.

It's also fairly fast-paced fighting, which is something I consider a plus. SFIV and SCIV both feel slow. They're not, necessarily, but BlazBlue doesn't suffer from that. It's also drop-dead gorgeous if you care about that kind of thing.

It's 2D mayhem at it's finest, it's less about blocking and dodging and more about beating the crap out of your opponent as fast and efficiently as possible.

So far I've beat Arcade mode with 6 characters. Noel is my favorite to fight with so far. I think I'll like Bang when I get used to using nails.

Have to say, I'm greatly appreciating the voice acting. Having different lines when fighting certain characters (actually during the fight, not just at open/close) is awesome, and the VAs seem to have actually, like, paid attention to what was going on in the game when they read their lines.

Battlefield: Bad Company : I can't stand multiplayer. I haven't a clue what the hell is going on. Terribly steep learning curve.

I adored the other Battlefields, but this one seems entirely inaccessible. I miss killcam. At least then I learned from each death and began to figure out how the game worked. This one is just crazy. I respawn, I get sniped. I respawn, a patrolling tank kills me. I respawn, I get gunned down. Gets very dumb after a short time.

I can't believe how much I've taken to Left 4 Dead. I'm usually not big on horror survival games, but this is awesome fun.

I've been playing Farcry 2 for the 360. I'm having a blast, aside from a few minor grievances.

The fact that my buddies keep getting killed when they come to rescue me, despite my best efforts to keep them alive, is getting tiresome. Driving the cars is annoying because if you want to look at the map and drive you're constantly hitting rocks and trees and everything else.

And getting sick at random moments? Not cool. I don't care if they wanted a sense of realism with the day and night system, dynamic AI, and what not. They should've added in dehydration, since I see water bottles all over the place and can't do anything with them.

I can't quite decide how I feel about Bang. He's hilarious as a character, but he's... mediocre in a fight. Having different shuriken is cool (poison is probably my favorite, though) and how do you not love Bang Install?

Just bought it for PC. Haven't had a go on co-op yet, just single player offline.

I'm surprised you've taken to Left 4 Dead without even trying co-op. It's kind of supplanted WC3 as my fallback for late night online gaming now, so we'll have to play some time (I'm on PC too).

Yeah, offline sucks.

The 'good guy' NPCs are clinically retarded. And all for different reasons.

I have it I just never play it. Every time I do I think "I could be playing tf2 right now and be having more fun."

Probably because I don't have 4 friends who own it.

When in doubt: It was sarcasm.

You really don't want more than 3 people you know who owns it. I got like 6-7 (not a magical 8, unfortunately) friends who got it, and everytime I tried to log on just to play with 1 of them, I got 6 invites, 2 people who joined then 4 messages complaining about how the game is full.

Don't ask me why they invited first, they did.

I would've played online co-op but my mate had to reformat his computer, so we're trying it out tonight. Should be awesome.
