What the hell with the Valve loving. Their steam system is straight out retarded. It may be that from time to time they have insane sales, but on normal days they're fucking every euro-currency country in such a way even a pornactor would be crazy.

(If anyone doesn't know, they directly converted dollar -> euro on 90% of their games. If you're not that familiar with math, 50$ sure as heck isn't 50€. On traditional games, that makes us pay 66.3949 USD instead of the traditional 50 USD.)

This doesn't beat one of their recent screw-overs though, where they had a sale on a game. It was great, 10 USD, then we looked at the euro version: 50 euro. God damn Steam didn't give us the sale. The thing that's really dumb is that we have no other alternatives if we want direct downloads, since all others either have a 2-4 weeks of country restriction (or a permanent). Either that or we can buy games I've never even heard of due to their age or popularity from various sites.

Can't you just pay the USD price and have your bank convert the funds? Whenever I buy anything in £ or € my bank just converts it to the needed currency. Yeah, I play like 10-12 pips on the money but it's usually not that bad.

Considering that most prices in Europe/UK are, converted, about 50% higher than the US RRP, the price of Steam's products doesn't bother me at all. I still almost always get games cheaper if I buy them over Steam.

Valve know they've done this; as a matter of fact they've laid a few good words about this tactic at e.g. EAGames afaik, meaning we have no chance. If you live in EU, they will localize whatever buy you try to purchase to euros instantly, ripping you off blatantly. They just forces us to pay that amount, whether the bank converts it into euro or dollar doesn't matter.

That said, sometimes paying a little extra is still cheaper than buying it in stores here in Denmark (was with the Last Remnant anyway).

If you live in UK however, there's a much better alternative, which unfortunately EU can't take part of very well due to country restriction (usually the UK and the US. Bastard game companies.)

If we go to the extreme, I believe each game has a number of installs. Ergo if I got say, an UK citizen to make an account, buy the game over there and then give me the account information, then sure.

If you know someone out of country you trust you could simply have them purchase it as a gift and send it to your account and you give them the proper amount.

Steam hates EU even when we filed an official complaint to .. forgot what it's named, some kind of organization that works to make EU equal to UK due to financial.. something? I simply forgot.
