General Gaming Thread
Due to the new content they peddled after the release and still are peddling, that statement must be completely true.

Releasing content has nothing to do with the actual game. They do it because people buy it. They'd release additional content for the worst game ever as long as people actually bought it.

Or... something that makes a little more sense.

I just started playing Bioshock for the first time. Its pretty good. Im normally not into the whole "survival horror" scene, but after hearing all the rave and all about Bioshock 2 i caved. I also picked up Dead Space which I hear is awesome.

Also found a new love of TF2. Guess I haven't played FPS's for a while.

Just picked up inFamous. The storytelling is pretty sick so far but I was caught off guard by the speed of the game. Everyone seems like they're moving in fast motion, it looks sort of unnatural but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Dead Space is phenomenal, though I haven't touched it since I beat it. It's everything Doom 3 should have been, and more.

Also playing Bioshock for the first time. The atmosphere is astounding. It's such a RICH game though. I can't play it for more than about two hours or I get worn out.

To beat it the first time, I had to turn down the sound, same with Dead Space. With no sound at all, it takes some of the horror-fact away. Although recently I re-installed Dead Space with a friend (through Skype) and we were like 'YEAH WE GONNA KICK THIS BITCH DOWN'

15 minutes after game start we both quit shaking like little girls. Sad

Recently picked up Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires. Very happy with the purchase so far. In addition to the standard "take over China" mode, there's also a "be one of the little bitches who doesn't get any real credit mode" where you have to go about doing things based on your employer's policies.

There's still the whole character creation bit, which is awesome. The free DLC costume pieces are pretty badass. Characters also have special abilities that can be used multiple times per map (things like running faster for a while or restoring some health) which add to the whole customization thing.

Maps also have a set time limit of 25 minutes, and gameplay overall seems to move at a faster pace, which is something that's probably a plus.

I'm really surprised, as I used to be a sissy for horror stuff. But after beating Resident Evil 4 a buncha times, horror doesn't bother me so much any more. At least, not in video games.

Gross stuff, like headcrabs, still suck balls, and are the reason why I still haven't beaten Half-Life 2.

SPOILER(ISH)

The dentist office in Bioshock where the screen steams up and when it comes back down there's a splicer standing two inches away from you? Yeah. That freaked me out.

END SPOILER

And Dead Space was pretty intense. I've found that listening to Stephen Colbert episodes while playing horror games is a pretty effective way to take the edge off the creepiness.

I played that game for so damn long and I still never beat it. It definitely is a longer game in general than the past versions of the game.

But yeah, I'd say that Officer mode was more enjoyable for me than Ruler Mode. I tried being Vagrant for a significant time, but the difference in EXP for Merc missions and territory battles makes it totally not worth it. The only use I found for Mercenary work was to save the random officers in the battlefield and make friends with them. Makes it easier to control who you want to marry/make a pact with.

EDIT: Ironically, the only person I've married so far was Yue Ying.

Just got Monster Hunter Freedom Unite today. The shear amount of information being thrown at you as a newcomer to the series is pretty overwhelming. I've spent 2+ hours just getting through training, and I haven't even started weapon training yet.

Seems like a really deep game though, looks gud too. Doubt I'll ever play online or with other people, but hopefully it stands up well as a solo game. Only time will tell.

inFamous, oh god it's good. I was enjoying it a lot for the entire first island but once I got into the Warren and the plot realllyyy got going I fell in love.

Thinking of buying Prototype today. Worth the purchase?

You shouldn't have to ask.

My favourite gimmick is jumping out of exploding helicopters and grabbing onto another to hijack in midair.

That's ... insane.

That game would be the epitome of awesome if Alex Mercer actually had a good reason to do all of that. Won't stop me from buying it though.

I like to make up reasons. Like the soldier I just ate has a long-standing rivalry with that helicopter pilot. The the pilot I just nom-nom-nomed was edged out of the 99th percentile in pilot school by the jackass that's shooting him. Payback time.

And so on and so forth.

I usually go with the reasoning 'they're shooting at me just because I ran up a building and landed in a crowd devestating, maiming or killing 40 people? Jeez'

I'm probably the only one that didn't gasm over that game. It was solid, but not spectacular.

Kinda like the game I'm playing right now: Red Faction: Guerrilla. There's nothing more satisfying than blowing the side off of a building to rescue some hostages. Unfortunately, even blowing stuff up can get repetitive.

I just played through the Arkham Asylum demo. It seems like they combined some of the better elements from the animated series, the comics, and the movies. The game play has't impressed me and I don't like the camera, but I definitely think I will buy the game.

When in doubt: It was sarcasm.

I was actually really impressed. The full game could be bad, but what I've seen so far is very promising. Felt very authentic Batman, you're not invincible and you actually have to use stealth. And from what I've read, people are finding a lot of interesting ways to use the environment which I never thought of.
