That sounds very much like the book club thing Brojack/ Bido tried to start once and, like the newsletters ideas of other sites, phailed because it was too involved. I really think that, in terms of a rank list, the best idea would be to have staff update the list once a month and include footnotes of what people on the list have been up to. And I think that your idea of having a thread where people can post brief summaries themselves is the best idea because it makes staff's job so much easier and it does, in fact, increase interaction at chubbs because despite the fact that the summaries were self made, nearly everyone on the site would be reading them. So whether a staffer writes it, or you yourself, the site will know what you're up to. Which, in my mind, makes more sense because who better to explain your storyline, development, and progression than you, yourself?

Yes, but I meant that in the case that there weren't 10 people who are always on reading everything in sight.

We have a separate thread where active members post their monthly summaries, and then staff selects top five most interesting character developments and can either copy paste the description posted by the writer or create a more in-depth one themselves. These descriptions would go in the monthly post with the ki level rankings.

Points 2 and 3 is what I was thinking. The rankings wouldn't necessarily need to be for best character development, imo. I think whatever is the most "awesome" or "epic" or "best read" would be a more appropriate ranking. For most of us, I imagine that would be character development more often than not, but I can easily see some great pure-humor posts making it in there as well.

Why would a ki ranking be sad? All that would have to be done is this:

1.) Look through the months trainings.
2.) Of those characters who trained 3 or more times within the month, check their roster page.
3.) List the Max ki's in note pad, then rank them from smallest to largest.

I'm not talking about a top to bottom ki ranking, I'm talking about an active member ki ranking. Something about seeing your name omitted from a rank list tends to give inactives a kick in the ass.

In terms of what you're thinking of, Rad, what if, after every finished thread, members posted a link to the RP in this running thread we mentioned earlier. Then, staff can offer up honorable mentions each month and have a news post about that characters activities within their thread of honorable mention.

The latter seems better. Maybe the descriptions the members offer are just them 'nominating' themselves. And then staff (or whomever) picks the top ____ descriptions and reads the works themselves, deciding on a final list from there.

That's exactly what the staff would have been instructed to do. Though they'd certainly be free to read everything if they had the time. Part of the point of the summaries would be to compel other people to read their RPs. The summaries would also have a max length of something along the lines of 300 words.

Aqua: Right, I thought you meant a "top to bottom" ki list. I would say that members would be limited to one summary per month for themselves. If they didn't like the one they submitted, or they thought something they just did was more interesting, they could post a new summary and only the most recent one would count.

I think part of the fun would be for people to try and come up with a "most awesome" aspect of what they've done. If they did multiple threads, then they have a lot to choose from.

Speaking in generalities of course. PS, ran 4 miles in 30 minutes today after working a 9 hour shift and my dad asked me that very same question as I did push-ups and sit-ups in the living room before dinner. :-)
