What Is Up With The World?
#21
Belle Hibiki Wrote:as if Americans are the only people who risk endangering others to scrape together a few dollars.

We're not talking a few dollars, we are talking high definition television. Third world countries don't have clean water, and we're over here so desperate for crystal clear feature films that we kill a man. I don't get that shit. Sure, throw an HD tv at an African village (assuming hey have electricity) and it is likely to start a fucking civil war. But at least they're starving. These people weren't. There is no doubt in my mind that these assholes just wanted to watch New Year's Rockin' Eve in HD.

I like how people consider buying an 800 dollar TV to be "saving money". If it's too expensive for you, and you don't buy it, then you don't spend any money. If it's marked down to 800, and you buy it, you didn't save shit. You just spent 800 dollars, you goddamn idiot, instead of not buying it at all. =/

These people are so desperate for something they DONT NEED that someone dies in the process. It's retarded.

Belle Hibiki Wrote:I could turn that right around and point back to the Canada Bus Slayer guy. He stabbed a dude like 15+ times, IIRC, and then decapitated him for no reason whatsoever. Does this mean that I can then call all of Canada fucked up because of it?

Of course not. People die for no real reason all the time all over the world. An accidental trampling to death of three people at isolated incidents is not indicative of anything. It's just people trying to hate on America because that's the 'in' thing to do these days.

You know what's crazy? I was about to respond to Bra's post with that EXACT arguement. I had everything written up almost point for point, then decided against it and went to bed. It's crazy.

No single thread has convinced me more that you guys don't actually read each other's posts.

It's quite entertaining.

Americans put people at risk much more in these scenarios.

They are oh so much heavier.

Belle Hibiki Wrote:I'm perfectly aware of what's being said, which is why I'm confused as to why Bra is acting like this is somehow exceptionally base. People are killed for LESS reason all over the fucking world all the damned time, like I said before.

Did I say those people who trampled the employees are innocent? No. While they likely didn't know they were killing the people by rushing - the same way you might not expect to kill someone by punching them - they were still careless enough to run over someone in the first place, and that's on them. I'm not sure if that's manslaughter or third-degree murder, but it's still wrong, and I won't defend them by saying they're somehow innocent.

What gets under my skin is people pointing at this and saying that America is somehow messed up, as if Americans are the only people who risk endangering others to scrape together a few dollars.

That's the thing. You say people are killed for even less important reasons and yet no examples have been given. Before you try your Greyhound incident, remember he was psychotic and not at all a rational human being. The people who trampled that Wal-Mart employee to death are.

I didn't accuse America exclusively. I accused all of us. It's outrageous, and like Minoshia said, at least part of it was a conscious decision. You don't step on someone and think "oh, that's not weird at all that the floor is suddenly squishy and screaming for help."

Krillin's mob explanation has some weight but it still doesn't change how incredibly absurd the situation is.

Because I thought it was common sense. I didn't think I would have to fish through foreign countries' legal systems to back up something so incredibly obvious. Random gang violence it prevalent throughout almost all industrialized nations, and quite a lot of ones that aren't. People get killed not because they belong to a gang, but because they're from the same area that a rival gang is from.

Want me to go find specific examples? I could go do so. It might take me a while, but I guarantee they're out there.

Yeah, how do you not know that you are stepping on someone? And for fucking TV? These motherfuckers' lives weren't in danger, like E2, they wanted to buy shit at half price. I don't get it. I don't get it at all.

I was going to comment about this too (Advertising a TV at the end of a news report), in my last post, but I did post preveiw and saw you had already done it. STOP READING MY MIND!!!

Anyway, I think the biggest point that we can take from all this is one thing. And that is that people die.

Edit: I would have responed earlier, but the school bell rang.

Man, I can't figure out what's funnier: the fact that you hate me so much, or the fact that you haven't realized yet that I don't care, and that continually attempting to antagonize me will get you nowhere. Tongue

I don't hate you. Quite the contrary, you amuse me greatly.
And the number of times I've heard the words "continually attempting to antagonise me will get you nowhere" is what I find funniest.

Football riots are pretty fun. Good reason to die, sports. Almost as good as drunk driving. Having fun is good enough reason to potentially kill someone and yourself.

What both of those incredibly stupid reasons kill far more than this could ever hope to? Huh. Imagine that.

Wouldn't a horde of thin people be just as likely to kill a thin person by trampling as a horde of fat people trampling a fat one?

It was how he setup his post (with a punchline). You could tell he was in it for the laughs, regardless of the serious issue behind it.
