Portal 2

Beat it!

Better than the original.

Now for Dev commentary and co-op.

I was all stoked for the co-op until I realized I have no friends on Steam to play it with. Sad

Decompressed for a bit, everything about this game was better. It was beautiful, funny, intriguing, the soundtrack fucking rocked. And I go on the interwebs and 50% of it is "baaaaw need be longer!" Fuck you quality is not measured in length. People were saying its easier this time around? I though it was about the same. I got caught up on a puzzle or two the same as the first one, but the puzzles continued to be interesting despite having played a game with the mechanics before.

Preach, Rem.

The only thing that was really easier is that there weren't as many puzzles where you had to portal in midair, and those were mostly just difficult because they were a pain in the ass to get right. I got stuck the perfect amount of times and I loved loved loved the new gameplay elements. They actually felt like they belonged in Aperture Science testing facilities and not like this weird tacked-on mechanic.

My biggest "disappointment" was the lack of a map editor. Because how fun would that be!? HOW FUNNNNN.

Oh, also loading screens. But that is a permacomplaint. I like when companies try to camouflage them (I think I am the only person who enjoyed that Mass Effect disguised a lot of their loading with elevator rides).

But yeah. Portal 2 was wonderfully wonderful. That franchise is officially my favorite of all time.

Completed. Beautiful. GOTY.

I think GladOS is now one of my favourite characters, if not just my favourite, in anything, ever.

I'm up for co-op with anyone who wants to play. Most people already have my Steam ID but just in case, it's greg0rz (or Master Dog).

A SDK is on its' way. That's a map editor in Steam terms.

Yeah, GlaDOS' character development in Portal 2 was just staggeringly good. Almost every single line was a gem.
Made so, so remarkable that you pitied/sympathized with her. The moment GlaDOS echoed Caroline and got confused, my heart went out to her.

GlaDOS' VA is so talented. The emotional outbursts were just fantastic.

One of my favs:

"I know things look bleak, but that crazy man down there was right: let's NOT take these lemons. We are going to march right back up there and MAKE him put me back in my body!" *going slowly from determined to hysterical* "And he'll probably KILL US because he's incredibly powerful and I have NO PLAN." Pause. "Wow. I'm not going to lie to you, the odds are a million to one, and that's with some generous rounding. Still, though, let's get mad! If we're going to explode, let's at least explode with some dignity."
My favourite moment of the game remains
Where Wheatley goes evil. You already totally know he's gonna, but the hilarity of his change, then followed by the revelation of his purpose as told by GLaDOS, is too good.

Favourite line is still "There’s nothing to stop us from testing for the rest of your life. After that I may take up a hobby. Reanimating the dead maybe."
Interesting fact: she also voices TF2's announcer. Once you notice the similarities, you cannot un-notice.

She also voices the Portal turrets. I also love them.

I haven't mentioned it yet, but I was really tickled in the game "tutorial" when
Wheatley was asking you to say things and the prompt to talk was spacebar, which made Chell jump. I absolutely love when games find ways to mess with mechanics like that (like when Amnesia fucks up the controls and I want to cry) and tie it into the storyline.
Like, literally one of my favorite little nuggets in games and I've been dwelling on it with a grin since it happened.

I finished it and it was a rollercoaster of experiences. I found the twists somewhat easy to spot but they just added so much humor to it I didn't care. The final sequence is pretty good too. Anyone remembered to get the Conservation of Mass achievement? : p

Just finished the single player game. Holy hell that was amazing.
So in the final sequence, I wasn't quite watching cutscenes because My brother is playing his 360 right next to me. So I'm sitting there like "shit, what do I do?" Then I notice the moon, and I'm just thinking That can't possibly be the answer, but lo and behold, I took a shot and said "Holy shit, I think I just won."
Needless to say, it's super fantastic fun.

This is not good. Everyone's hyped this up as the best game I'll ever play, and I just know it won't live up to those expectations. =(

Don't worry! Portal was my absolute favorite game of all time, so I was kind of dead set on fangirling (being super excited about the sequel and then being like WTF EVERYTHING IS RUINED FOREVER after I played it). I was preemptively annoyed with some changes to the franchise and had mentally drafted my complaints before it was even done preloading.

Then the game didn't let me get irritated. It didn't let me get mad. It was polished and wonderful and I feel horrible for not trusting Valve. Like everybody else has said, even if you see the story coming from a mile away, it's like watching your favorite movie again. It doesn't detract from the enjoyment because it's so damn good.

The people who have complained about it read to me like the same people who complain in LoL about any and every character being OP when they're beaten by them. They're complaining because they want something to complain about, to be nonconformist, or because they aren't good and don't want to admit it.

Granted, you may not think it's GOTY and that's okay. But I guarantee, if you liked the first game, you will have fun with this one.

I liked Portal, no question, but I doubt it's in my top ten games. I just don't think I'm going to love this as much as the rest of the Internet does.

Don't worry. When the Mass Effect 3 thread gets started. It'll over shadow the entire Other Games area. xD
