You weren't interested in shelling out another 30 or so for 2X4g sticks of RAM? The difference between 4 and 8gb is actually quite significant.

i3s are fine, but if you're going to be playing any of the higher end games of today I'd still suggest an i5. If not, should be fine.

I'm still not a fan of AMD GPUs over nVidia, but a lot of that is personal preference, and it doesn't matter so much in the lower price backets, so it should do you fine.

6870 is a solid GPU. I'll echo Anz elsewhere though, if you have any extra cash it is worth it to look into an i5 and then more RAM but both could happen down the road.

I was strongly considering the i5 over the i3, but it would've broken the bank. The i5 is only $230 so I can always go back and exchange it when I actually have, like, a job.

I can't blame as much on the RAM but I figured 4 would do me alright for a little while and I can reward myself with two more sticks when I gain employment. It'll be like a "Good job, me!" *self-five" thing.

I stole this build off of a hardware guide, but the actual proccess has taught me a lot. Maybe next time I can actually pick all the parts myself and be like a wizard.

If you're going to stick with 4g, see how much the price of a single stick is compared to the 2x2g, that way you can just add another 4g stick in the future rather than fill up all your RAM slots with 2g

It's generally not suggested to do so. Also make sure they have the same memory speed (the mhz number)

you can totally mix them, you just have to make sure you don't mess up the pairings if you want dual channel and match speeds because they will all run at the speed of the slowest DIMM

I'd just add 2 more 2gb sticks later since you have 4 slots on that motherboard. Doubtful you'll need more than 8gb anyways.

I was seriously wondering about a tool kit. I was super-ultra-mega-intense worried about having a static strap. Prolly overkill but fuck it this shit's expensive.

ALSO, I think I forgot a networking device. Do I need a... I dunno, CARD or some shit? This is one area I totally overlooked until today.

PS: Just got the $30 of extra RAM. Screw it!

It's all built, all installed and ready to rock! I've really enjoyed the process and I feel like I know a lot more about computers now. It was really rewarding and now I have this badass computer to show for it! I think even better is the fact that now I can upgrade it and have some idea of wtf is going on.
