Dragon BallZ
#21
I looked up and apparently they're supposed to be wasabi flavor, which explains it. Once you know they're SUPPOSED to taste like that, they're not so bad ... kind of.

And no, THIS is the best promotion ever: http://www.blogcdn.com/www.comicsallianc.../dbz01.jpg

And you woooon't </superkamiguru>

The merchandising in Japan is on a whole nother level. You can get anything-branded ... anything. Like, you can get One Piece towels, candy, snacks, pencils, face cream, WHATEVER YOU NEED WITH A LUFFY/CHOPPER ON IT, I CAN HOOK YOU UP. DBZ is the same, especially right now with the movie out. Goku eating KFC chicken is everywhere. I'm serious. Here's one from my facebook:

He loves that shit.

So anyway, I watched the DBZ movie today. Somewhat-spoilers-warning-but-probably-nothing-you-havent-already-guessed:
It wasn't that good, IMO. Didn't expect it to be great but, still gotta see it for what it is. I honestly think a lot of this film is Toriyama trying to one-up GT by making a more powerful form than SSJ4. Better than the last 'special/film' but the same kind of tone. Nobody dies and it never gets too srs, kind of anticlimactic.

Again with Toriyama middle-fingering people, the credits roll past all the manga stories super fast, and although it goes through the Buu saga, it ends on the iconic shot of Gohan firing the kamehameha with Goku's spirit behind him, which I think is a pretty clear indicator that that's where Toriyama considers the 'real' ending of DBZ to be. This film was more fanservice than actual story, like the last special. Still, dudes get punched and there are some badass moments and I'm glad I went to see it so I can brag I saw it in the cinema. Still wish I'd seen One Piece Film Z more though, BUT I MISSED MY CHANCE IT STOPPED SHOWING BEFORE I GOT TO KAGOSHIMA =

Also there are moments they seem to say "super saiyan level/power doesn't matter all that much compared to just being mad" or "fuck it, everyone likes SSJ more than the other later forms anyway". At the beginning Goku makes a big show of going SSJ3 and gets taken out effortlessly, none of his punches do any damage. Later, both Goku and Vegeta hold their own in separate instances just in regular SSJ. So ... make what you will of that.

Also apparently there are hints that there might be more specials, I wouldn't be surprised because MONEY. This film kind of proves you can just shout "DBZ! DBZ!" and people will come in their thousands.
Uhh ... name something, and if it's convenient and I run across it while I'm in Tokyo in June I can get it to you via paypal/post. Things like cheap Japanese games are easy, I already got myself a copy of Jump Ultimate Stars. Probably better to just order it online, but maybe there are some things you can only get in shops.

Bonus content of this NSFW movie poster I should've gotten a picture of myself. Pinky will be pleased (or would be, but I think he'll be mourning Margaret Thatcher about now)

You'll be lucky if the movie even hits the cinemas. They haven't talked about dubbing it yet, apparently.

I thought this one might have a better chance, given how it's like a big deal and stuff. But I still doubt it.

They're more interested in remaking old movies in 3-D and a sequel about a lost, amnesiac fish. They wouldn't think to waste their precious time on an anime that defied all limitations of awesome. Why would they?

They're more interested in making money. If they were convinced a cinematic release of a DBZ film dubbed well-enough to _merit_ release would be profitable, they would do it. But they aren't releasing it because it almost certainly wouldn't make its money back.

I have to agree with Meer. Even taking into account that the Dragonball movie wasn't great, it didn't make a whole lot of money based on the fact that the fanbase is relatively small. And an animated movie that is most certainly only for teens or adults would have an even smaller audience, as most adults seem to take a poor view on animation and most parents will be reluctant to take their children to a violent movie.

Don't want violence and yet a six year old and 3 month old were at DKR when a madman went on a shooting spree at the midnight premiere. The people who of chubbs should unite. Start a fund. Buy an island. And tell North Korea we've got no beef with them. We'll import waffles, chicken, rice and rice noodle. Build robot dinosaurs for tourist attractions and shit like that.

What Meer said is accurate in accordance to what they want you to beleive. What I said is da truf! Ya heard!?
