I'd rather see the abbreviated form written on maps then that.
Canada
United States of America
Mexico
In order of top to bottom of course. If this is placed on maps as our new official abbreviation, I'm all for this.

It seems like we assimilate to any and every other culture, or at least the parts of cultures that aren't contrary to western idealologies.

Couldn't one argue that said amalgamation of cultures would be a culture in its own right?

Most def. It just seems pretty amorphous in its current state. It's like saying the American and National Pro Bowl (football) teams are actual "teams." They're a team in the sense that they are a collection of players, but they lack many of the qualities by which we call most things "team." We're a "culture" in that we are a physical cluster of people with certain similarities amongst us, but we lack most of the qualities by which humans tend to associate "culture." A lot of people call America a melting pot, but I disagree. In a melting pot, many ingredients go in and one new substance emerges. We're more like a tossed salad.

That doesn't mean the original culture is diluted. The Roman empire (an ironic analogy, considering recent discussions) spread its culture over the majority of the known world. No one can argue that the Roman culture was an amorphous, indistinct idea, yet it is true that the culture changed drastically as it went from place to place (considering they allowed the 'conquered' peoples an incredible amount of freedom in retaining their own traditions). Further, the Roman culture was itself a variant of Greek culture.
Culture is like biological nomenclature. We can call it one thing, or another thing, but in the end, our words don't define where one thing starts and another stops. Culture, especially in our modern world where nearly everyone is connected in one way or another, is starting to lose its ties to a particular nation, and with that, edges are blurred. The center of that culture, though, is still quite distinct. For now, anyway.

I think our generation is really starting to see the birth of a "world culture" through information technology. Though the term "world" is somewhat misleading, because not every part of the world is connected with said technology... but its pretty close.
Point being, I think many other nations will start experiencing this "tossed salad" effect that Aqua is talking about. Haven't decided whether I think its a good thing or not, but I definitely think its happening.

Yea there's one thing though that will keep it from happening sooner than later, Canada has a prime minister or something right? USA has a president, Mexico has a president too, will this mean we'll get to choose between a president and a prime minister?
I know our generation is going to see the birth of a 'world culture' like you said Raditz its cause of our technology and ability to be a bit more accepting than the older folks, we're going to be dealing with different religions, nationalities, sexual orientation and alot of other stuff. Plus I really believe if a african-american or woman is elected President in the next decade than we're going to see some big changes in the world.
...all this talk of CUM and tossed salad is making me shiver. <insert big gay al voice> jesus christ.

That's just a product of dated cultural relativism, and its probably something that our grandkids will be saying about us. In general, people do not adapt over the years the way a culture can, and the birth of a world culture could mean revelations that even our, more open-minded, generations won't be able to cope with. It will take people being brought up within that culture to be able to fully appreciate what it has to offer. Just a newer cycle of inborn cultural relativism.
I'm not sure I agree about the Black/Woman president, though. As a symbol, yeah, it will definitely mean something. I think there's too much legislature for them to really enact a great deal of change in the country, let alone the world. I could be wrong (I kinda hope I am, actually), but we won't know until a woman or black person is actually in office.
If Canada and the US and Mexico ever did consolidate to make a single nation, they would probably have decided upon a form of leader beforehand. Be it president, or prime minister. There's no way that wouldn't come up.

Ironically enough, my Senior Independent Study project is an evolutionary defense of cultural relativism in defiance of objective moral truths.

I think this whole "world culture" idea is directly related to the economy and free market, etc. as well as technology to bring together numerous regions from across the globe. But is it realistic to think that regions that aren't actively involved with the global economy will be able to assimilate into this "world culture"? I'm talking about regions such as the Middle East and Africa -- granted most young people in countries like Iran are reported to have "western idealogies". Do you think a global culture will be realistic as it is now? I think that these regions would need severe economic and humanitarian aid to bring them closer to the global economic table in order to truly create this idea of a global culture.
