General Gaming Thread
I'd look up a facepalm gif, but they aren't funny.

So...

Yeah, bad mistake. Luckily I rented it instead of throwing my life away.

...on the other hand, I impulse bought Disgaea 3 today. I'm...not sure about it so far.

Disgaea is intense.

Picked up DW5: Empires for a tenner yesterday and played some free games this afternoon (on easy). Seems like something I could certainly get into, the whole progressive campaign, determining policies and 'building up your dudes' stuff seems very appealing at first glance, though it's confusing as all hell to start with. Anyone got any recommendations for starting stuff in the empires mode?

Just run through a couple campaigns on easy to get used to the system. There are quite a few mechanics, but most of them are actually pretty simple. Once you simply know what they are, games become a lot more pick-up-and-play.

Dude. Why?

I mean, Kaden is going to destroy this comment but...

Dynasty Warriors was meant to be Hack and Slash. This idea of making policies and building troops ruins the original premise for the game. =(

Fighting to the bitter end is an advantage when your opponent does not wish to perish.

If the game was meant to be tedious and boring, then I'm glad they betrayed the original concept.

EDIT: In other words, I like Empires and Xtreme Legends or whatever, but I think the "regular" games are borderline unplayable.

Actually, Dynasty Warriors was meant to be a take on Romance of the Three Kingdoms that appeals to a wider audience. It's a sound business strategy to take the people who liked the more fast-paced hack-and-slash iteration of the classic tale and adding back in some toned-down versions of what make RotTK the game it is allows them to introduce players to a genre that they might not otherwise pursue.

Regardless, you obviously haven't played a DW: Empires game, or you'd know that the not hacking-and-slashing compromises about 10% of the total game.

It's what makes you...you. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Yep.

I couldn't find it locally, but I could find DW5:E. I might check Amazon or something for it.

6 Empires is awesome. If you can order it somewhere, I think it is absolutely worth the wait.

Considering its $39 USD on Amazon (about $45 AUD) I think I'll be ordering it.

I just found out that shipping is close to $50. I don't know if it's worth it now.

Wonder how much it would be for someone other than a company to mail it to you. Time to investigate.

EDIT: If I did this post office calc right, it's 12.78 for me to ship it to you via USPS box. That's an online price too, if I get the label from the website.

I played MW2 online briefly, for the first time yesterday. It's very hectic, first match I had no idea who I was supposed to be shooting at. I was running around like an idiot shooting at my own team mates and getting melee'd by the other team. Once I got my head around it I did okay though. The online gameplay doesn't seem to have very much depth to it, I can see myself quickly getting bored, but that's just from playing for about 40 minutes. I might change my opinion the more I play, who knows.

4 days 20 hours and still going strong in MW2 online when my mouse actually works.

I got my hands on Dynasty Warriors 6:Empires and played it all day. It's a lot like the old one but with enough of a twist to feel like a totally different game. It's addictive but it's simple gameplay; after I finished ~4 hours on it and tried a game of LoL, my response time and logical thinking were waaaaaaaay down.
