I'm partial to 90's rock, myself. <.< I'll take Chris Cornell or Layne Staley over Bon Jovi any day.

EDIT: Maybe not Cornell now. He rocked in Soundgarden and Audioslave, but his new shit sucks. ='/

You're just confirming what I said...
He's NOT a great guitarist.
He IS very creative, as well as a great songwriter. What does experimenting with a violin bow have to do with being great at playing?

Btw, Angus uses so much distortion (though he uses more tone), it's ridiculous.

And I don't like how you call 'simple,' 'rock and roll,' mainly because you used Led Zeppelin as an example of rock and roll right after. Led Zeppelin is NOT simple.

The fact that you are a guitarist and respect Kurt Cobain make your points invalid.

I hated the 90s. Christ, that shit blowed. Except for U2, RHCP and SOAD, that era was nothing but emo grunge bull crap.

EDIT: And The White Stripes of course.

I'm not allowed to respect Kurt Cobain?

You're the one who considers "simple," "Rock and Roll."

You're trapping yourself in a corner. The only reason I like NIRVANA period is because Kurt was my 1st grade hero - the reason I started guitar. Then again, listening to Rape Me when I was in 1st grade probably wasn't very..."normal"

Btw....I totally can't respect you liking the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They aren't bad, but I can't force myself to like them. They're way too overrated.

Then who are your favorite guitarists? Top ten.

First of all, no Jimi Hendrix? You lose.

What did Kurt Cobain influence? As a guitarist? He contributed nothing.

1)Jimi Hendrix
2)Angus Young
3)Jimmy Paige
4)BB King
5)David Gilmour
6)Chuck Berry
7)Buckethead
8 )Buddy Guy
9)Eric Clapton
10)Jeff Beck

I don't listen to a lot of 'new' music. Except for Buckethead, and Modest Mouse, I don't have anything on my Ipod that was released in the past 5 years. I like a lot, but nothing I'm going to go crazy over.

Alright, I see why you'd put Hendrix on your top 10. Hendrix was a respectable guitarist.....but, excluding the EXTREME overra...tion (not a word?)...he, again, wasn't a phenominal guitarist, but rather, a phenominal songwriter. If he's on my list at all, he'd be 8-9-10ish.

And Kurt Cobain had influence. Regardless. He was the epitomy of rock and roll. He didn't care what other people thought. Fuck Them.

EDIT: And there's no I in Page. Jimmy Page.

I love how people bring up great solos/lines/lyrics/riffs in all of their favorite songs in their favorite genres, and declare them to be the "greatest _____ ever". Not quite. You need to actually look at all music in entirety to claim that. Rolling Stones magazine can't tell you which are the greatest Rock n' Roll songs of all time. Radio jockeys can't either (though both of them probably have a greater grasp on music than you do).

On a side note, again, I absolutely loathe the bands you guys've been discussing. I'd literally rather have silence than those bands. You want to start talking some 'real music' (to use your absolute-imposing musical views)?

American Pie, by Don McLean
Chasing Cars, by Snow Patrol

Those two right there sum up my genre selection.

I have to agree with Krillin here.

:| Jack you're arguing his opinion of Kurt Cobain is for the birds. If someone influences someone, even if they're not the best, how does it make them any less than such in the eyes of the people that they influenced?

FIRSTLY)No, he said Cobain influenced music. His suicide influenced music, not his talent at guitar.

SECONDLY) Fuck out mah biness!

@Krillin- I've heard enough. Rock guitar has only been around for 60 years.

I found great humor in this statement, considering your age.

It doesn't take that long to get familiar. And I have had a shitload of time on my hands for the past four years. And go play Nintendo.

Jimi Hendrix played with a right handed guitar; he's left handed. Jimi Hendrix couldn't read nor write music. Jimi shits on everyone when it comes to the wawa. Jimi played the guitar behind his back and with his teeth. He pwns all, by a lot.
