[Warhammer Online] Da big swords are fer hittin stunties!
#61
Even with my comp upgraded and the settings on "Fastest Framerate", I'm still suffering major lag. Its playable, but walking through the Inevitable City or when around more than like one or two other players, I get low framerates that are quite noticeable. So that might interfere with me actually sticking to the game till I get better.

I've held off on getting the game for exactly that reason =( Apparently a gig of ram won't be near enough, even if I play on the Yurpian servers.

The game isn't that bad. Maybe you need new drivers or something.

I'm running a Dual core 3ghz processor. My graphics card is a Radeons x1950 - not at all old, but definitely not cutting edge new - with 256 memory on board. I have 2 gigs of memory.

For the most part, the game runs smooth at - oftentimes over - 30 fps on the game default 'highest quality' setting. The only problem I've ever had is in keep raids, because the final room is way too fucking small for like the 40+ people that can pile in there.

The game, however, anticipates this. In the graphics options there is a toggle between two profiles that you can flip between, customizable by you. Naturally, my first is the high graphics I know and love, and the second is for maximum framerate - no shadows, no player effects besides those I generate, full animation distance being right next to me, etc. Very very easy to run smooth even with 50+ people on each side pounding the shit out of each other at those settings.

I always run at minimum graphics settings on PC games, unless they're old enough that performance isn't an issue. You think with a gig of ram and a shitty graphics card would suffice, with that in mind? My processor is apparently 3.4GHz dual core.

Get a new graphics card, imo. Games these days, oftentimes it's far more important to have a good graphics card than a good processor.

Just so you know, I didn't choose the setup. This computer actually got given to me free by my university (otherwise I'd still be on my old laptop ... you don't want to know the specs) so I can't complain.

We weren't actually supposed to install any games, filesharing software or anything like that on them, or even open up the case. Bwahahahaha. Like any of the students stuck to that.

Graphics card is always where I fail the specs tests. If I was to upgrade my graphics card, what would be good without being overkill considering my RAM and processor?

I'm getting annoyed that everytime I try to install the latest drivers for my Radeon 3850 I get told "File not compatible with your hardware or os" even though it specifically is.

Like this game. I play a Bright Wizard since every fucker rolls Destruction and I like a challenge.

The only goon guild on the European servers is Order at the moment (though there might be a smaller Destro one) so I'm considering it. The clincher for me would be if they added Lizardmen to Order in an expansion.

So far the most fun Order classes look like Swordmaster (or whoever the Elven tank class is) and Bright Wizard. But I still want my Goblin Shaman and Squig Herder =(

I'm gonna pick up the collector's edition with a new graphics card and some RAM once my paycheck comes in, which should hopefully be next week.

Lizardmen would be an awesome addition.

Swordmasters are cool. Same mechanic as the Black Orc and I love my Bright Wizard.

I'll post my opinions of how the game compares to WoW at a later point.

Which server are you on? I eventually decided to get the European version because importing game cards for WoW got really old, and it screwed up my sleep patterns since everyone got started around 11PM my time.

Right now I'm debating between Karag Orrud (the server where the Goon Order guild is located) or Burlok (for destro, some goons apparently have a guild there).

This game owns.

My first impressions were fairly bland, I think your initial growth is kinda slow. Your character seems to be missing large pieces until you start to approach Rank 10 - then you get more vital abilities and PvP becomes a lot more fun.

So far the Gobbo Shaman is everything I hoped for and more. It has the buffing, healing, killing blend I've always wanted. So far no other game has such a class with the healing/killing dynamic (which really makes it for me) so I think this is going to be a long-term subscription. I'm level 9 at the moment, 5 on my Chosen and White Lion.

I also like how there's less 'padding' (ie making you do things just to extend the gametime for those who like to play 24/7) compared to WoW. You don't have to worry about certain spells being better/worse at certain levels, since you don't have to pay for upgrades (a stupid goldsink if ever there was one) - they level with your character once you've bought them. No durability on armour either.

I also feel like loot is very de-emphasized now that you pretty much only find loot for your own class. It's more about the game. From what I can tell, the focus is off 4-hour raids as well, and replaced with dynamic PvP. Considering I hated raiding in WoW and loved PvP, WAR is pretty much a dream come true for me.

It's not perfect, but considering it's just launched and it's got so many things right I am very optimistic about the future of this game.

I'm hoping to see an exp increase given from World RVR as it seems to so rarely happen at T1-T3. But maybe that'll change in T4 when people don't have anything better to do XP

The biggest issue for me right now is that people just play one scenario from each tier (ENOUGH NORDENWATCH ALREADY). The PvP would be a lot fresher if we actually used all the scenarios. WoW fixed this with the whole bonus XP for certain instances on certain days thing, I'm looking forward to seeing Mythic's approach.

I wouldn't mind a PvP scenario 'daily' thing.

Yeah, Nordenwatch is pretty lame. Order mainly get schooled at the Gates of Ekrund, where they complain despite the map being completely totally even.

Generally, the most popular of any tier is the one that favors Order the most, since they "have the lowest population" (read: suck) and need to "coordinate to get games going" (read: exploit Order favored maps to have a prayer of winning).

Sounds like WoW all over again.

I think you mean "that sounds like whiny assholes all over again."

I don't know why people read MMO forums.

Nordenwatch IS skewed in favor of Order, imo. Both sides reach the castle at the same time, but Order starts on higher ground, and their squishies can only be approached via a pretty narrow bridge, whereas Destro starts lower in a wide open area where your healers can't really hide.

But hey, Destro ALWAYS gets the murderball first on Tor Anroc in T3 because the map is WAY skewed in favor of our side. It looks identical, but Destro always gets the ball like 4-5 seconds before Order would even be able to click it.

So yeah, sorry if I sounded like a whiny bitch - I can be that way - but there are reasons for my opinions.

I'm pretty sure the dev's openly said that some scenarios were basically one side launching the attack on the opponent, thus giving the opponent the turtle advantage.

Such as the Gates of Ekrund.
