The Like/Hate Thread
I'm amused that you take such offense to relevant criticism.

I remember, back in the day of SNES, when most games didn't have tutorials, and the arcane knowledge required to wield your digital warrior came from small, grubby little manuals.

Yep. Back when it was actually important to read the manual. Now everyone's too fucking impatient to read a couple pages.

I actually still make a point of reading all of the instruction manuals.

I guess I'm old fashioned that way.

Me too.

I will even go as far to say that it annoys me when people don't. People that just pop the game in and go for it pretty much sicken me.

Amusement. What a condescending word.

I'm not sure any of the criticism I've heard for the game rings true. Certain assumptions have to be made for it to stick (insofar as they should be taken as absolute statements, and not merely matters of opinion, which are decidedly less interesting than how vehemently some argue their points), and those assumptions, in nearly every case, do not apply.

Amusement is condescending?

It can be.

Just about anything can be condescending.

That's definitely not my default reaction to someone expressing amusement.

My one contention with the game (and I think why so many people failed to 'get it') was that there is literally no tutorial, just a few pointers and stuff. Some people liked that because it encourages figuring out the game out by yourself, experimenting etc (which is a big part of the game since there are so many moves and combos) but I found the game a lot more fun after watching a few videos that really demonstrate what you can do in the engine, like this one.
God Hand is still gay. It's the worst game that Clover Studio ever made and plays like a slower and generally inferior version of DMC. I'm still offended that you said it was better than Viewtiful Joe. u_u

Condescending is saying "I love it"

I almost always read the manual entirely before playing a new game, I'm OCD like that.

Manuals and tutorials are for pussies, you do it the manly way and jump in.

Most games are easy enough to play without a manual or tutorial.

In actuality, I usually regret playing through tutorial stages.

I'm impatient about most things though.

Does honesty earn respect or inspire revenge? Is it smarter to attack the strong or annihilate the weak?

I dislike the party feature that was introduced as part of the Xbox live update a few months back. Now everyones got their real life friends ect in their little parties, leaving loners like me with no one to communicate to. It's not a huge thing, since I didn't talk that much even when everyone wasn't in parties, but it does take away from the whole, teamwork thing. I mean honestly I might aswell throw away my mic, doubt I'll be using it much anymore.

Another thing, I'm disappointed with Gears of war 2. Don't get me wrong, it's a great game, great single player, solid multiplayer. I don't know, just recently I've noticed it's getting a bit repetitive. I can barely play more than two matches in a row without getting bored and wanting to do something else. I guess I just overplayed Gow. I want to try and get the 1999 rounds played achievement, but I don't know if I'll be able to at this rate.

Eh, what can I say? I was looking up glitches for Call of Duty and somehow was pulled in the general direction of Chubbs. My boyfriend looked at the screen and was totally... "WTF, Mate?" He had no idea how much of a geek I actually am... was.. type thing. It was a long explanation... Anywho...

I just have to say that I am thoroughly annoyed with the new GH guitar controller. That freaking slide bar is definitely overkill at some points.. especially when Im playing Purple Haze and the slide comes up and then my streak is completely screwed. Bah.

Go out and do other things. The achievement will wait for you.

I usually start playing a game and just read the manual later for interesting reading material if I need some *ahem* "Bathroom reading material" or something to that effect. Catching a ride with someone and want to just relax, whatever. Most of the games back then, I never actually managed to even see a manual exist, much less read them.

I also don't mind this Legend of the Seeker show. Its got a few DRASTIC changes from the book, and yes, those changes will forever frustrate me, but people have GOT to accept that due to various rules over different mediums, there will be changes. For what the show IS, I enjoy it. For what I wish it had BEEN, I can sit around pouting, but they don't make the books suck or anything (just rebought the first three in new covers).

I'm in agreeance, except in regards to the DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi series (2 and 3.) I sucked arse even after playing through the tutorials. You need to know the skills, then you need a decent amount of experience just to be any good at it.

EDIT: I hate working from 8:30am to 8:00pm one day, then starting at 11:00am and working till 9:30pm the next day. So fucking gay.
