I do running for my cardio, and there's something very fun about just going all-out as fast as you can possibly go (hence why I tend to do intervals instead of long-distance).

For those that don't want the intense toning and muscle building from p90x, there is another program a couple of my friends are doing that actually has worked and lost them a good chunk of weight in a week.

Beachbody Insanity

I have it downloaded, I want to try it and then move to p90x I think.

I'd love to be 200 and then start bulking. I'd need to lose 80 pounds though.

Since you already have the weight, why not just start cutting.

Still if you're heavy then you should have a decent amount of muscle underneath it to move around, so if you lower your caloric intake and start lifting you could achieve the same result.

I am lowering my portion intake, but it does need to come down still. I'd rather not gain weight from muscle this early on.

You won't.

The chances of you actually being able to build more muscle than you can lose fat are unlikely. Plus increasing your muscle mass will help you burn more calories.

Yeah, putting on the muscle takes way more time then putting on the weight.

so, this is day three of the p90x deal.

who does this shit? this is retardedly painful. i can say with absolute certainty this is the best AND worst thing i have done in a very long time. if i had stopped to think about the fact that i still bike to school four days a week i probably wouldn't have started it. tomorrow is 90 minutes of yoga, hopefully it doesn't do so much rip-and-burn because im about to lose my mind

If you're biking already, just drop the cardio from the routine (I'm assuming it has cardio). Otherwise, HTFU and learn to love the burn - it means it's working. BEEFCAKE, UUNNNGGHHHH, URRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGHHHHHH

In other news, someone just indefinitely loaned me their bike, so I have something to do besides running for cardio. Sweeeeet.

i didn't get half way through the plyometric routine they set for day 2. biking isn't enough anymore yet it's too much to pile on top of all that. there's a dvd labeled "cardio", which is less intense than the plyometric one, so i'll probably do that next week.

i didn't get the full benefit from day 1's back/chest routine because my shoulders gave out after forty minutes. then there was plyometrics. today, i half assed the shoulder/arm routine because of what happened the last two days. i'm definitely off to a horrible start, but at least it's interesting.

week 2, day 2.

yoga last week was great. i didn't get half way through it, the whole stretch-and-burn deal is just as awful as rip-and-burn, but when i woke up the following morning all the pain was gone. looking forward to that again.

getting started is defintely the worst part, i still wake up sore, but with the first week behind me my body is almost comfortable being drenched in lactic acid. switched out plyometrics for a basic cardio routine today, and i got to the very end before my body stopped (maybe 30 seconds left) instead of only half way through it. not so intense, but still pushes me enough to make it worth the time. if i keep improving this fast i may go back to plyo next week. biking in the morning and afternoon seems to be giving me an advantage.

i exercise in the basement and it's colder than the rest of the house, but i'm still sweating all over. must be awful for people who do it above ground level. i'll have to do something about that concrete floor, though. makes the ab routine unbearable.

taking 100grams of protine per day. it should be 250g but i dont have the money for it. 500mg of glucosamine and 500mg of methylsulfonylmethane a day for joint relief, 1000/1000mg on days with high-impact routines. i don't have bad joints, but i don't intend to collect injuries either.

Buy a big bag/tub of whey protein, it's cheaper than most sources and it's complete protein unlike many sources. I'm a vegetarian and so I need extra protein and creatine (both of which people tend to get from eating meat) so I eventually ordered one, then the other, and they both made a significant difference for me.

I've never done yoga but for recovery I really really recommend deep massaging your muscles when they're sore as outlined in the book I posted. I've pretty much experienced all the benefits he wrote about within. I'd almost go so far as to say that until your muscles are fairly 'de-tensed', it's almost as important as the workout itself.

As an aside, I've become such a narcissist now that I have muscle. Watching myself get slightly hotter every week is cool as fuck.

I think I'll eat a bit healthier and run a couple times a week. I'll write a book about it so others can follow my complex regimen. cha-ching

^When I get a camera worth a shit. Note my facebook picture is two years old.

Rem: Assuming there's a kernel of truth under the sarcasm, might I suggest an alternative cardio to running if it makes your knees hurt. Cycling and swimming are both great ones, though of course they're not as convenient.

Also straight up resistance training is about as good for fat loss as interval training (which is basically just hyped-up cardio) and also makes you buff at the same time, lots of people don't realise this. Best time to add cardio/interval training is really when you're already doing resistance training 2-3 times a week.

I actually got a threadmill, a row machine and weights in my effing basement in my family's attempt to get us all exercising. Held it for two weeks before I started getting paranoid that "life was slipping away" down there. I need to force myself back there, especially since I recently lost like 1/10th of what I currently weight because of meal adjustments.

I just can't be aaaarseeeeeed.
