The Like/Hate Thread
Like:

The fact that no matter how many times characters seem to die in comics, anime, and video games they just keep coming back.

Dislike:

The unoriginality of the former comment due to how lame and small some of these groups are gettting. Not to mention how over used the characters are. You can only do some much with one person or a group of people. GET SOME NEW IDEAS!

Tallow Wrote:Eh, I had my suspicions pretty early. The way that went down was pretty lame though.

To clarify, seems like the writer threw away a bunch of characters with lots of potential because he couldn't think of what to do with them.

Also what's going on with this forum, why is every post clinging to the left side of the screen. Is everyone else seeing it, or just me?

Ditto to both statements.

I would also start by learning a .NET-compliant language.

I'm not actually looking to make game programming my career, though it does overlap. My main interest has always been virtual reality. Of course that is huge a pipe dream right now, but worst case scenario I end up with some extra skills and get a job somewhere else in programming. I'd still much rather get a B+ at being awesome than an A+ at being okay.

And noted about the particularly useful languages, both from you and Vad.

For C++, I recommend Absolute C++ by Walter Savitch. He goes at a pretty nice pace (although he sometimes is all, "You can totally skip this chapter until you've read chapter 10!" which is strange), and intersperses everything with self-test questions. Each chapter is ended with, like, 3 - 10 smallish programs to build on your own using the information from that chapter. Also, the previous edition is pretty much exactly the same as the newest, so you can save your money a little.

Also, if you don't have a compiler, the Bloodshed Dev-C++ environment is free and easy to use. It's for Windows/Linux.

Well, there's all the advice I have as a fairly n00bish programmer myself. Also, don't forget to have fun with it!

EDIT: Also like... November 2nd (if you haven't already). I don't care who you are and what your political stance is, go vote. Yes, even if you are in complete disagreement to my own votes. Be heard. I don't want this to turn into a politics discussion about who or why you are voting a certain way, I just want you to vote. Unless you fall in the "its fixed anyway/why bother/fuck 'em all/damned either way" crowd like I more or less was for a long time after graduating. And yeah, I don't want to turn it into that either (responses about "a fixed system" or "recount jokes" or such).

I just want you to go be heard.

First instinct was "Hate". Second was "Well, Toriyama is the guy doing it, so not sure if hate."

I basically think that if he does like Chubbs did and camera shifts or preferably time skips to a thousand years later (this would work fantastic, show how the first series changed the universe) then this could be phenomenal. Sadly, they'll likely do something like Goku Jr or the normal cast. The special they did was great, but they just... really don't need to continue where it left off. Its so powerful by then that its pure cheese. Like, Aisen cheese. Except everyone is Aisen.

If you think that the majority of those who vote republican are any different than you should honestly consider suicide, and i sincerely mean that. I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, but for the betterment of our society you should strongly consider it.

Like how politics brings out the most...interesting comments from people lol. Folks on campus have been getting into 'serious' debates about the elections...it's funny.

Hate that I blacked out on an exam today thanks to me foolishly taking a benadryl that I thought was non-drowsy. I would speak to the professor about it but I'm not sure she'd believe it...worst thing about some professors are when they say 'tough titty' yet cut someone else a break if they tell them a similar or same incident happened to them.

Like Fable 3...it's pretty fun so far. Right now I'm still learning little things about the game so the second time around I'll love it.

Trying not to be a dick and telling someone that suicide would better the world in the same sentence?

Whats hilarious is this is exactly what Stewerts rally was about. Stop grasping at each others throats, and work together.

My fault. I was actually hoping when I said "Go vote, regardless of who for, and I don't want to turn this into a political argument of one side vs the other" that we'd agree (and I agree with Rem's amendment of "Please be informed, regardless of which side you vote for") and do just that. I did not mean to immediately throw that request out the window and post a link hoping to bash one side or the other and get everyone riled up.

In other words, yeah, we can talk the discussion that gets heated on a more private subforum on this site. We shouldn't be doing it in this forum, which is why I made that comment. The part we CAN discuss is the part that basically glosses over the issue, such as noting that the generic event itself is happening.

Please keep this in mind for the continuation of this discussion. Let's play nice.
