He found Capt. Ginyu's ship, or one of the Ginyu squads. But first he tried to fly Freiza's ship off and failed.

Blue is the closest to being correct. Goku tried to use Frieza's ship, but it wasn't functioning. He was able to find Ginyu's ship still intact and used it to leave Namek before its destruction..
