To me, the thread is less about criticizing/defending Avatar and more about wondering how stoned Jack was when he saw the movie/made the thread.

Great interpretation, Meer. Sorry Vad, have a beautiful gf of two years. And no Meer, that doesn't mean she's two years old, we've been dating for two years.

Damn. Call me when you're single.

Though I was actually hinting toward that I strongly agree, but in the form of hitting on you. *purr*

MLB 07: The Show is bullshit. The way your character improves is through performance in games, which makes sense. When you make your character, he usually has to start out in AA (maybe, if he's really good and on a bad team, AAA). Every once in awhile, the character may get called up to the higher league (after AAA, the MLB), but will almost never get a single start. Problem is, if you don't get enough points to improve your performance, your character begins to get worse after 30 days of not training a stat.

My character, who was doing all sorts of amazing shit in AAA and was outpacing the other Right-Fielders for the All-Star Game at 2 votes to 1, got called up to the MLB team, and didn't see a single at-bat for 75 days. He went from a solid B to a C+ in Overall, and there wasn't a single fucking thing I could do about it.

It's just dumb. I got called up from AAA, where I was doing amazingly and improving like crazy, and didn't get to do shit in MLB.

Graphics are important to me in the context in which they were made. I can still play game boy color games (I do) but if nintendo tried selling me something that looked like Super Mario Land on the Wii I would take it as lazy and not buy it. Dwarf Fortress anyone? I cannot play it. Its a visual ass fuck, I don't care how complex and interesting it is.

These are all extreme examples but they illustrate my point. Gameplay is obviously most important, this is not a revolutionary concept, but Graphics are a large part of the equation.

When in doubt: It was sarcasm.

I think there's too much emphasis on graphics. I don't give a shit, for the most part, as long as it's great gameplay. Sure, pretty graphics are good, but they shouldn't ever be a deal breaker.

I beat The Force Unleashed last night, both on Light and Dark side. Pretty fun game, perhaps a bit short, but I loved the extra canon info they used to bridge Eps III and IV.

Well, since we're on the topic of graphics anyway, we should have some fun with it.

What's the 'prettiest' game you've ever played? Gameplay completely does not matter for the moment, just awesome visuals in all their shiny glory - hopefully with minimal bloom effects. :p

I can't really decide. I'm also having trouble differentiating 'visually technical' and 'visually appealing.'

Metal Gear Solid 4 for today's era.

I thoroughly enjoyed the acrobatic moves in Prince of Persia.

Yeah, I'd have to go with Metal Gear Solid 4, in high-def.

For artistic 'vision', the Final Fantasies have been quite good in that regard. Fable too, actually.

Oblivion deserves a mention, though it's a bit of an old fogie these days.

Farcry. Easily.

Artistically, I was very impressed with Jet Grind Radio.

Yeah, I was gonna say Farcry but I really haven't played it - only seen a friend play, so it was a conflicted choice.

And that was on a crappy 720i screen. I play games on 1080p that don't look as good. XD

What about specific stuff?

Like, the best water animation I think goes to Bioshock, easily.

Call of Duty: World at War should get some sort of graphical mention, I think.

Okay, Prototype is awesome.

The spectacle is so addictive. Lots of fun and the graphics - to me, at least - aren't nearly as bad as the critics are saying.

Just got my hands on Overlord 2, went about 80% through the main plot in one stroke. I got a mixed view on it, really, mostly because they took away the colliseum. The BASTARDS.

Has anybody got Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on the PSP? Apparently it's breaking all sorts of records in Japan. I've read some reviews and they all seem to be pretty mediocre, so why is it so popular?

Didn't Dragonball Evolution do well in Japan? 'nuff said imo

There's so many people in Japan that if even a fraction of the people who have extremely bad taste does something, it breaks records somewhere. True story.

In other news, beat Overlord 2 and it lays up to supposedly make me want to play through it 2 times more.

As if.

That didn't stop Halo from being ridiculously popular in the states. Some things are just in the right place at the right time.

Between the four or five reviews I read for it they all seemed pretty consistent in saying the game was perfectly fine for what it was and lasted basically as long as you wanted it to. For a hand-held game, that's a pretty good combo in my book.

EDIT: I'll probably pick it up once I'm done with whatever's in my PSP right now.

In some very sad news, Warner Bros actually paid to buy Midway. There was originally supposed to be an auction, but only one bid came in. I might actually weep if another MK vs DC is made.
