I had that the first time i won. Just won this one. If you can get madagascar infected, keep it lowkey, like, no symptoms, first tier resistances, just have some patience and once everyone's infected, just start laying the symptoms on. Teir three and four symptoms are your killers, once you get everyone infected, bust those babies out and watch 'em fall.

Just for fun, I'll log my actions and see how it plays. Realistic mode only, none of that pussy stuff.

Virus: homosexuality.

Starting location: Brazil, South America.

Starting Symptom: Sneezing.

Starting Resistance: Heat I.

Bought Airborne, Rodent, and Insect transmissions, in that order, to beef up my infection paths.

Acquired Moisture Resistance I & II, and bought Waterborne. Infection paths set to maximum.

Brazilian water source immediately becomes tainted. The number of infected Brazilians nearly doubled from 2500 to over 4500 in a few hours. Lethality bar is at zero, Infectivity bar is low but the effects are promising, and visibility is extremely low - after all, who'd suspect any danger from something that looks like a simple cold or allergy?

Bought Cold Resistance and unlocked Tier 2 symptoms.

Infection is almost at 300,000 of the same day that homosexuality infected the Brazilian water source. The virus crossed the border into Peru and Argentina. Bought Diarrhea symptom: raised lethality and visibility by a small bit, but also got a good infection boost out of it.

Into the seventh day. Over twelve million people are infected across South America, most of them Brazilians. In a stroke of luck the infection hits the Middle East: the center of the Eurasian continent, which also borders North Africa. Bought Drug Resistance I, II & III to stall the forces of the medical community. At the end of day seven there's almost thirty million infected and Brazil begins handing out face masks.

The Middle East water source is tainted. The infection rate there soars. Eastern Europe becomes the first non-infection nation to take action by closing their airports, followed by New Zealand who closes their national borders. Since NZ is an island state they don't actually border anywhere else, so that's a pointless move.

Brazil begins exterminating rodents, shuts down public transit, and begins handing out bottled water. Too little too late, I think, because half of their 200 million population is already infected.

Day eight. Japan closes their airport, which raises my alarm. If their harbor is also shut down before the infection goes there then they're effectively immune. I sell Diarrhea in the hope of lowering global awareness. I still have 23 evo points in the bank.

A slew of actions take place. East Europe, Russia, North Africa, India, China and Mexico become infected. Brazil enacts marshal law and sets curfews, close their borders and shipyard and airport, they begin using pesticides and are forced to shut down their hospital and start burning the dead (none of whom were killed by the virus) to slow the spread of infection. Some other government somewhere may have done something, but I can't be sure because the list for global news is short and cannot be scrolled.

North Africa, the Middle East, Russia, India and China all have infected water supplies. The infection-free Indonesian island chain shuts down their airports, while the Middle East takes a more aggressive approach in the face of unprecedented infection rates.

Then, because I am a fucking idiot, I close the tab to the game and put and end to my quest for global human extermination.

Let's try this again.

Parasite: Alien Egg.

Starting Nation: Madagascar. (score)

Starting Resistance: Heat I.

Starting Symptom: Sweating.

Exchange Sweating symptom for Sores to boost infectivity, and Rodents transmission.

The disease stays isolated in and unnoticed outside of the host nation for several weeks, and I suppose that's due to Madagascar only have one shipyard from which to export my "wares". The naturally slow rates of adaptation and infection keep the Alien Eggs weak, and the Harmless trait sets in (curses!).

The infection obtains all transmission paths and Moisture I & II to enable waster source infection. I manage to unlock Tier 2 Symptoms followed by buying all tier one Resistances, but don't expect to need much more as Parasites are naturally resistant to changes in the environment.

Then the first traveling parasite reaches Mexico on the other side of the world, and then from there to the United States and Peru, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, East Europe and Australia, then West Europe, Greenland, New Zealand, Russia and China, with water sources being infected as they are reached. Africa closes its airports and shipyards which hampers the parasites ability to reach those shores, but I think it's only a matter of time.

I exchange tier one symptom Sores for tier two Pulmonary Edema, cutting visibility down to zero while maintaining a slight infection and lethality. Indonesia closes their shipyard shortly before it too becomes a host for the Alien Eggs.

Japan succumbs. The Middle East closes their borders, but like Indonesia before them that only drew the attention of the Aliens and the parasites were found there shortly thereafter.

Cuba quarantines themselves by shutting down their airport and shipyard. Their borders are open, but since it's an island I doubt the parasites will be able to travel there unless they grow wings.

China, with over a third of their population the host to my parasites, starts playing hard ball: schools, public transit, hospitals, national borders and shipyards are closed; all Government Affairs are enacted in short order. The infection rate there rises from one third to one half.

Natural disasters begin happening with unusual frequency.

The infected world falls into a downward spiral in an attempt to stall the parasites while they begin developing The Vaccine. Sensing that the time for the last battle is drawing near, the parasites are equipped with Fever, Fatigue and Boils to overwhelm human medical efforts and ramp up the spread of infection on multiple fronts. By now, half of the world's hospitals are already out of commission.

As the time of the Great Battle draws near, North Africa is protected from infection but not beacuse it has closed itself off from the world: on the contrary, the world has closed itself off from Africa. No people travel from the infected nations into Africa, no ships are sailing into harbors, no planes landing at airports. Clever humans.

The Vaccine is completed, and the latest weapon of the Aliens is unleashed: Dementia. National governments continue their paltry efforts but all eyes are on The Vaccine, for in it is the last best hope of mankind.

And it fails.

Of course, now the world at large is doomed to suffer for another season but the victory leaves me with a hollow feeling: as the Harmless trait continues plaguing my plague there has yet to be a single death caused by the Alien Eggs.

A second coming of The Vaccine is into the works and the parasites begin causing Cysts, furthering infection and raising lethality. Only five hospitals remain active across the globe. Five and a half billion are infected, everyone in the fallen regions. The Alien Eggs become Stealthy, lowering public awareness (wut?). Yet, no deaths.


When the second Vaccine is completed it fails to be deployed. Why? Because the Deployment Bar is already full! This must be a glitch. I unlock Tier 3 symptoms and gain Depression. For both them and myself. End game.

No, it's not that complicated. You simply win by infecting and killing everyone in the world.

The game plays with a lot of luck elements. For instance, a Vaccine can either a) stop your pandemic from spreading forever, b) do nothing, and another Vaccine is queued up, or c) trigger a mutation that causes your infection to gain the Immunity trait which nullifies the Vaccine and disables future vaccinations. I don't know if or have any reason to think that Drug Resistance has any baring on the outcomes.

So far my favorite trait is Stealth, but I don't know how to trigger it yet.
