I've played most of the Final Fantasies but I've only ever completed 7. I got to the end boss on 8, 9 and 10 but by then my motivation to play was just dead.
I started out loving FF12 but the problems were too big for me. Then they released an edition which removed ALL the things I had a problem with (look up 'International' edition) and released it in Japan only. Fuck you, Squeenix. Fuck you. ![]() Bra Wrote:People are dumb, essentially.

I had no problems with 12, but I'll still look into it to see what was changed. Perhaps it is one of those "didn't realize something could be made better till I saw the proposal" deals.

Arguably the single most important character in any of the Final Fantasy games. I haven't played anything before VII, i can't find any of them. I and II have been re-made for the PSP i think, so i'll play those eventually. Loved VII, VII CC, VIII, X, XII and FF Tactics: War of the Lions. Never played IX or XI, or X-2. VII Dirge of Cerberus wasn't awful, but it was odd. ![]()

Honestly, the only reason that Aeris's death is so "omg amazing" is because she was a liked character that was done in cg, which wasn't common for its time. The death being cg really set it in. Its not the first time a fantastic character has died though.
FFIV, which I like more than VI, had Tellah die in a fight in a very memorable way, but even more so, Porom and Pallom turn themselves into stone to prevent the death of the team. In the very end, they were finally cured, but you play the rest of the game under the impression that they are dead, and they were two of my fav characters in that game. It was a pretty tearful scene, and I loved the remake of it on DS.

lol.
"Creme de la creme." Obviously you've only played JRPGs. Anyway, yeah. FFVI is the best Final Fantasy period. By far. Followed by X. The others suck. <3 And that was my whole point guys. A one-dimensional character is the series' most important character ftl. O.o Also, Burter is correct. The old Suikoden stuff is incredibly good fun. ![]()

Bra Wrote:And that was my whole point guys. A one-dimensional character is the series' most important character ftl. O.o Now you're just being silly. The importance we're referring to regards the extent to which the entirety of FFVII is built upon Aeris as a character, similar to a foundation for a building. Whether or not she's a well-fleshed character (as, admittedly, she's not particularly interesting as a person outside of the plot enveloping her) has nothing to do with her importance in this regard. FFVII is not the place to look for interesting or deep characters. But for one heckuva good plot-ride, it's solid. I'm wary to call it anything resembling groundbreaking art, but it is delightful, much as Harry Potter might not set any standards for a new level of aesthetics, but is nonetheless (imo) enjoyable. ![]() Mal Nova Wrote:I do apologize for using the word rape. I've played other rpg's, like Oblivion, if that's what you mean. Just have always preferred, turn-based battle, old skool rpgs. Although, after playing Lost Odysessy I've kinda gone off them.

I liked Aries and was totally crushed when Sephiroth killed her, it was depressing seriously. I spent so much time trying to resurrect her. But I think if you want to really enjoy FFVII you should play Crisis Core, then FFVII, and watch Advent Children. In my opinion it gives a lot more depth to the characters.
