I actually think he's an egotistical jackass, but the Russian Roulette thing was pretty entertaining.

I just pwnt the first Seymour fight using only the newly acquired Shiva. That's taking down the two Guado, Seymour the first time, Anima, and then Seymour the second time. All one aeon.
Wheeeeeee

That's pretty impressive. Level grinding a lot or just getting astoundingly lucky?

Mixture I think. I haven't been leveling TOO crazily (as in, Tidus still has only his first Overdrive), but I've been fiddling a bit.
Too, I used Diamond Dust three times: First, to knock out the first Seymour and the two Guado. Second, after getting battered a bit by Anima (and self-healing with Blizzara). Third, after getting a teeny bit battered by Seymour. All Overkills. =D

I hate that my FFX disk is to damaged to play. :\
When in doubt: It was sarcasm.

You could probably find a used copy at Gamestop for less than 15.

Shit man. I've been playing To Zanarkand on the piano for years now. I know it inside and out. I've probably heard it, literally, a thousand times.
And it still gives me shivers.

That's at least one person that's not worrying about the economy.

I still need to complete that game. I got the airship and was like "it's a fucking MENU?" and ragequit. That or I just kinda lost interest. =(

Man. You and I just have no overlap in our tastes, I think.

I actually thought FFX was a fun game, I liked the battle system and sphere grid. Just had some major problems which got bigger and bigger as you got towards the end (like magic's growing uselessness). And the FF games are so long that by the end I've forgotten so much of the plot that I have no real motivation to finish it. Reading LOTR was the same, though I forced myself to finish it anyway. And FF7 is the exception, the one game that I pretty much OCD-played from start to finish, since it was my introduction to the genre and I was all =O
The plot and characters didn't interest me at all though, which I guess is no surprise.

Ah. I think the magic issue really depends on how you play. Before this playthrough, I would have agreed with you, but I've been using Lulu a bit more, and (until just recently, in the lull before the third-level on the Sphere Grid) she was crucial. After she gets the -aga's, she'll be right back in it.
In the end game, though, black magic is essentially useless (and white magic too, if you're kickass enough about armor customization). It's really more for elemental exploitation, which becomes less of an issue as the game progresses.
And yes, the Sphere Grid still rocks my socks off. Infinitely better than the Materia system, I'd say (which is spiffeh enough).
EDIT: Just got Bahamut; let the pwnage commence =D

Even at the end, using the -agas against weak enemies, there was really no point using the MP - the attacks were usually stronger anyway. That's why it sucked to see magic die off, since the rock-scissors-paper element made the battles a bit deeper. Pretty much the only times I used it at the end were against physical-resistant enemies.
The instant character switching (which I loved) made it less of an issue, but still sucked for me.

The end? If you stopped at the airship, that's hardly the end. =D
And there's still Flare and Ultima after the -aga's, which kick all kinds of holy ass. Yes, magic is pointless in the ultimate end-game, but so are a ton of things (like buffs).

Well, yeah, like I said. A lot of things irked me =P A lot of RPGs get like that in the later levels, where strategy just doesn't matter outside of boss fghts, which is where I quit because I get bored. It's a pity because it wouldn't have taken long at all to tweak their scaling.

I suppose. Seems to me that Chess, Checkers, and Tennis could come under the same criticism, though.

I stopped playing at the first Seymour fight if my memory serves. I couldn't beat him, so I just...got bored.
I honestly wish I knew the story though. I have no clue what the fuck is going on in that game.
