"Mary Sue"
#21
Yeah... Like Sage said, we don't really know. Its effectively a vampire with absolutely none of the weaknesses, and even more strengths.

Its like...

If we were doing an rpg where everyone was human and working a 9-5 job (Anyone actually remember that rpg?), his "human" would basically be a Saiyan. "Yeah, so my human refers to himself as a Saiyan, which is entirely human, but its his special name for himself. He has a tail, can transform into a giant monkey by magic when there's a full moon, is totally badass, and knows how to shoot laser beams. He works at Wal-mart as his job... zapping people in the ass with lasers that shit out of his ass! FROM HIS TAIL."

That would be him.

Actually, he was too vampire obsessed. The all human rpg would somehow turn into "I AM human, but I'm just a bit of a genetically enhanced human because I was visited by a demon of the night in my sleep and now I can leap 10 stories and zomg I'm roleplaying Twilight now with the other humans check out my glittery skin."

What's the opposite of jizzing in your pants?

That's what Twilight makes me do.

Pooping in your pants?

I was thinking "pissing in your pants" since the two bodily functions are mutually exclusive.

The second blog entry on that site (second when I clicked on the link, anyway) called "Stephenie Meyer VS. Stephen King?" is exactly why I have a problem with Twilight. I don't care that it's popular (hating something because its popular is one of the stupiest things people do) or that it's a movie or whatever. It's just so amateur. Seriously. It's like reading a fanfic.

This... pretty much sums it up for me. Like... I just told Erin that to me, the entire book series is basically as if someone took a different story involving the Cullins having their own lifestyle. Then they said "omg, Edward's my favorite character! I'm going to write a fanfic!" Then they modeled the entire female character after themselves and wrote about how their favorite character fell hopelessly in love with them and would do anything for them.

Then they sat back and shoved two fingers in their ass and loved it.

What?

Anyway, I hate Twilight. Not because of the book (which I haven't read), or the movie (which I haven't seen), or the fans (who I deal with too often), but because every time something minor happens in the Twilight world, I have to do something completely ridiculous.

New shirt? I have to wear it at work.
New posters? I have to put them up.
New perfume? I have to offer samples.
New snacks? Samples.
Buttons? Bookmarks? Action figures? Dolls? I'm the dude who walks around selling this shit.
And tonight, you know what we got in the goddamn store? A fucking Twilight suitcase. A suitcase! Who the fucks cares THAT much?

I want to sell books in a bookstore. Is that too much to ask?

Not to mention working till 1 AM on three different occasions over this bullshit. A movie release party, a book release party, and celebration for the movie in theatres. At midnight.

Mary Sue is tossed around way to easily now, the problem with those sites is it nitpicks every little thing to the point that your character is a Mary Sue unless it's a friggen' quasimodo that can't do anything but lie, cheat, get jealous, and look stupid most of the time.

A Mary Sue is supposed to be a fan-made character that is clearly an avatar of a fanfic writer which is essentially infallible and disobey's the rules and context of said story. Like putting your character into Star Trek TNG and having him turn out to be stronger or smarter than the Q.

Edit: On a side note, I took the time to watch and read Twilight. Don't know if any of you bothered to do the same before tossing in your comments on how good it is or isn't.

It sucks btw. It's trite and clichéd up the wazoo.

I personally think Mary Sues are more prevalent than people give it credit for. These characters that are smart and tough and quirky are what people want to write about because it's how they want to be! I personally enjoy READING about a character who's fallible and flawed in ways that don't in some way ADD to their character, but detract from them. I guess I like gritty stuff too much. Am I writing a Mary Sue? I would totally say yes, despite the fact I really have nothing in common with him. He's written to be (whether I'm successful or not is up to you) quirky, funny and at least semi-adorable in his misadventures, and that relatability makes him a little too pandered for me to really think of his stories as LITERARY. I don't really think these posts are meant to be literary, they're meant to be fun. And it is fun to write for a Mary Sue lol.

PS: My room mate read the Twilight books and regaled everything that happened in them back to me. The silly bullshit that goes on in those books is just retarded. It's pretty much the level of writing you'd expect from an angsty teenager. She probably couldn't get guys so she dreamed up this crap up. BAH I HATE THIS SHIT
