Listening to the orchestral version of "Not Alone" from Final Fantasy IX right now. Despite some people's opinion of the game itself, I think that song and the accompanying scenes were pretty amazing, especially when the hard guitar riffs joined in on some of those scenes. It was very moving. I actually bought the soundtrack for 9 and 10 (for 10 I had the three or four disk set imported, but it got destroyed in a move. Honestly though, for that, the first disk was basically awesome and the others disks of it were kinda boring, I just found I didn't listen to those as often.)

FFIX was just epic in general. A lot of people didn't like it, but I really dug the heartfelt simplicity.

I really liked that each character had a very specific role to fill in FFIX. I wasn't a huge fan of the Sphere-grid and the liscence board just drove me completely insane. I don't understand the problem with having a "warrior" and a "thief" and so on. Their classics because they work.

I agree. Its one of the things I liked most about FFIV. It didn't force me to level 6 other fairly irrelevant characters to keep them up to par "just in case I want to get a secret item from a boss just for the character being there" or to see some special version of the same conversation. It kept those characters up to par and manually switched around with the story. The change to VI involving too many characters and most useless (and again in VII and the others, or even Chrono Cross being an extreme example of this) detracted, for me. IX was kinda a blend between the two styles on that front, but I really really enjoyed the storyline and the way it was told. Even if people felt (justifiably) that Zidane was a ripoff Saiyan story, I liked his whole adamance about helping people, and Dagger was awesome as well. Just everyone had this great "purpose" story, to me, like the black mage.

by epic, you mean how my I was supposed to have it off for a family dinner but have to work because of all the people on the schedule, no one else could work and he absolutely had to have people to cover that date so I have to be there and we'll be the busiest of all week AND open later? Yeah, epic.
