You probably need new valves and piston rings, then. If you were able to do it yourself it'd only cost you about... $50. A dealer'll charge ~$600 at least. Probably more.

If you had a Chevy V8 the parts would only cost you, like, 8 bucks! =D

Wrong. They quoted 3500 for the overhaul and over 4 for the engine replacement.

That totally sucks, bro. Shop around, though. You can save a ton if you avoid doing business with dealerships. They fleece you for pretty much everything. My mechanic's shop rate is $40 an hour. Your typical dealer here charges $120 an hour.

Ask around, see who's got a good reputation and who seems to be... shady.
