I play my brute named Massive_Erection and beat up my old characters for guaranteed wins.

if your opponent is too far below you in levels, then you only get 1xp for winning instead of 2 and zero for winning, and if they're way below in levels then you get nothing period. since you're guaranteed 1xp for losing against even matched opponents in the arena you might as well fight them :X

He's definitely correct. Have to be within two levels I believe, like 8s can mess with 6s etc.
