Ki System
#1
I was wondering if there is anyone here that knows some place where I could read an elaborate explaination on the ki system used in the CDBZ universe or just DBZ universe.

If I could read the elaborated explaination here from a user, that's cool too.

What do you mean by ki system?

I need to expand my vocabolary. Well, to put in examples to compare with, Naruto got their own special system on how they use chakra in order to accomodate the Hyuuga clan. I'm just wondering if there's such a specific explaination on Dragonball as well?

You have inner energy/Ki/Chakra/chi. You focus/harness it into a physical form.

You could use Naruto's explination of chakra flow if you needed to, actually.

Some people treat it as a 'well' from which you draw energy until it runs dry, and then have to wait for it to refill.

Others use the whole 'chakra gate' thing and whatever, or spirit energy...

...I guess what it boils down to is personal preference. It's also pretty hard to figure out what you mean.

I believe energy works vaguely like the one from Naruto, but not quite. It's not exactly a chakra network or anything, but Kaden uses a lot of techniques that exploit similar rules that the Hyuuga did, using his energy to 'break' the flow of people's ki and such in their bodies.

*shrug*

Well, that was exactly what I wanted to know. I suspected it all really was just about personal preference, but seeing other animes have so elaborated explainations, I figured there was just a manga/episode of DB/Z that I had missed.

Eh, as far as I remember(I.E. DBZ, not Dragonball so much which is likely where that kind of thing would be) there was no detailed explanation of Ki given really.

In the episode "Take Flight Videl" in Dragonball Z, Gohan is explaining how everyone has the energy within them. They just need to be taught how to bring it out.

From watching the show I'm going to tell you that energy was treated as a 100% meter. When transformed that meter slowly ticked toward zero and as each fighter exhausted themselves it moved more rapidly.

Gohan never explains in depth, but he does mention how Videl's experience in martial arts might have helped her a bit.

However, there are discrepancies that will throw us a curveball. In the episode "Enter Goku" he finally arrives on Namek and states that Krillin and Gohan's energy are near 0, which would mean they would die.

However later on in the series during the Cell Fight, Gohan was able to pull strength from hidden well's of power using the pain of loss..or just frustration.

The Buu Saga's were a little different as well. Having attained Super Saiyan 3, somewhere in the Series, I think after he returns to Other World, Goku explains that SSJ3 was harder to use on Earth than it was in other world. We assumed that it was because in the episode where Vegeta is resurrected during the Kid Buu fight, Goku mentions his body won't be as versatile. He'll have his mortal body back, thus being more vulnerable to injury.

*shrug* To reiterate what people have already said. It's personal preference.

They actually were pretty consistent about no energy = no life.

So you could treat everyone's ki as a life force of sorts.

EDIT: And, for the record I never once denied that my Customs are similar to Neji's (or Hinata's, depending on who you like more). What I said was that I didn't take them from Naruto.

Yes.

I had to point out that some episodes shrugged that rule off.

76 Embodiment of Fire: Goku drowns..literally. In a nightmare or something about Earth being destroyed he comes back with a last ditch effort and fires a Kamehameha at Frieza. (Not the best example)

When Tien spams his Tri Beam at Cell. Goku states that if he continues he'll die. "If he continues we'll lose him!" Though Tien collapses to the ground completely drained...he lives and Goku saves him AND Piccolo who in a previous episode got his chest pierced.

Vegeta is buying Goku some time with Kid Buu. He's barely standing, bleeding like crazy. Krillin states he has no reserves left, meaning he's close to death, yet Vegeta manages Super Saiyan AND manages to match Kid Buu in a stand off.

There's probably more, but I'm in a cloud right now.

You're right, it's not the best example, because he wasn't dead yet. And he had ki.

I see absolutely no breaking of rules there.

Vad Wrote:When Tien spams his Tri Beam at Cell. Goku states that if he continues he'll die. "If he continues we'll lose him!" Though Tien collapses to the ground completely drained...he lives and Goku saves him AND Piccolo who in a previous episode got his chest pierced.

Because he didn't spend all of his energy. He brought himself to the very edge, to the point of collapsing, but he didn't use every last iota. One more and he probably would've been dead.

No breaking of rules there.

Vad Wrote:Vegeta is buying Goku some time with Kid Buu. He's barely standing, bleeding like crazy. Krillin states he has no reserves left, meaning he's close to death, yet Vegeta manages Super Saiyan AND manages to match Kid Buu in a stand off.

Krillin is on another planet. I don't think he can even detect Vegeta's ki from that far away, he's just going by what he sees. (Could be wrong here.)

And Vegeta didn't catch Buu in a stand off. Did you even watch those episodes? Vegeta was getting slaughtered. HOWEVER, even at low energy, the Saiyan Prince probably has at least enough to go SSJ. Remember that they're several hundred times stronger at this point than they were during the Namek saga. Transformation to SSJ1 really isn't a big deal for them.

Also, you forget that Krillin is always fucking wrong. :gfrown:

They also say a lot of shit like that when they're exaggerating for dramatic effect. They say "lol you're out of energy" a bunch during the series, but what it usually means is "holy fuck you're running so low it's like I could shit on your chest and you couldn't do anything about it."

Hell, we do it all the time. We say we're out of gas, when our tank isn't literally completely dry. Exaggeration

There is an indication that life != ki in dragonball.

Tenshin's Kikohou is a powerful technique because it uses his life energy not just ki, I believe that Roshi gets upset about Tenshinhan knowing it.

But, during the Buu Saga Goku goes SSJ3 and it eats up all his time on earth, which seems to indicate that the 24 hours of life Goku was given was eaten up through extreme ki use.

I think Loosing All your Energy... can be death... but there's also the Life Raw Energy... WhichTein Uses...

I used Claw of the Beast... as such a thing... as it helps for...Dramatic Rp's....

But yeah... the Life Force is only... for dramatic effects.... technically I think...

I see ki usage as synonymous with life force. Trained warriors can use it much like physical attacks, but over-extending their use of it wears them out, and extreme abuse of it will end up killing them.
