Teemer The real reason as well to be honest, I also had a few friends who had XBox 360 so I could play with them, but really this is mostly it.

I also had an XBOX and PS2, but having the 360 made for more Halo playing. Also, even now with my 360, I tend to play more original XBOX games than I do PS2 games.

I like the PS3 library a lot better but tbh, all this talk about crappy PSN service has me worried.

it's always been limited compatibility, though. the same thing happened with the xbox360, but at least they're still adding new games via online updates.

The originally manufactured PS3 with software emulation for PS2 games but the launch PS3 can play any PS2 game because they have the emotion engine included. They removed it because people wanted a lower price and backwards compatibility wasn't that high on the list for most.
Honestly, I still own a PS2 so if I really wanted to play a PS2 game I could drag that out but even with the full backwards compatibility on my console it hardly gets used.

It shouldn't.
I've played BlazBlue and SF4 online quite a bit and haven't run into lag issues. I would also classify my wireless connection (forgot to mention that built-in wireless is a huge pro) as mediocre.

Perhaps, but the funny thing is that the same people that put forth the argument you just did make a big deal over the $50 or $100 difference between the two systems.
Simply put, statistically, your PS3 will survive longer than your Xbox 360. After one year of playing PS3 online, its price will essentially be the same as the 360. After one year of owning a 360, you might not have one anymore.
Literally, every single friend of mine who has owned a 360 for longer than six months (four) has had the RRoD.

Built-in wireless is HUGE.
And I love how no one (at least as far as I've seen) has mentioned the built-in Blu-Ray player. I hear all the time, 'Oh, Blu-Ray, I don't really care about Blu-Ray.'
Bullshit. Getting a game system with built-in Blu-Ray, built-in wireless, free internet gaming service, an extensive library of many high-rated exclusives, superior graphical processing (is that a real phrase?), and strong customer service and a low failure rate for $299? That's a good deal.
Hell, from what I hear, getting a Blu-Ray player at all for $299 is enough to jizz yourself over. They can't be selling them for much cheaper than that.
EDIT: Again, this is not a post degrading the 360. This is a post defending the PS3. If you want your Left 4 Dead and Fable II and Halo 3/Wars, go play them. I'll stick to my LittleBigPlanet and Metal Gear Solid 4 and Infamous.

Oh yeah, forgot about built in wireless. Live + crappy adapter would bring a new 360 to like 400.
Left 4 Dead isnt on PS3?

Just wanted to point out that whilst the 360 breaking is a pain in the ass, it doesn't cost money to get it replaced or anything - you just have to go without it for a while.

True, but it's still a pain in the ass, amirite?
If part of the deal when I bought my PS3 was that there would be, in all likelihood, a random month in the future when I would not be able to play it, I would be a little pizzled.
And that's until the warranty expires. After the warranty expires, good luck.
If my PS3 is anything like my PS2, it'll be around in ten years.

It's what's called an opportunity cost.

Valve actually claimed that coding for the PS3 was a waste of time.
They say the architecture for the system is terrible (and it is. Arguably worse than the PS2), and that investing in toolkits, etc, for PS3 isn't cost-effective since the PS3 audience is so comparatively small. Their words, not mine.
So, no. No HL2, no L4D. =(

The Orange Box is on the PS3, so HL2 is as well.
Unless you mean HL3. For that, it's a bit too early to guess. HL3 might not even come out on current-gen (I haven't heard a thing about it).
Unless you mean Half-Life 2: Episode Three. For that, I haven't heard of a release outside of the PC (which is still TBD 2009, which really means TBD 2010+).
That a game company complains that a system is essentially too hard to code for (despite this difficulty allowing much more depth to the designer for game design) doesn't faze me. Too, the idea that it is not worth designing a blockbuster game for the PS3 due to its 'comparatively small' audience also does not faze me.

Making code senselessly complicated does not, in any sense at all, offer more depth for anybody.
I also didn't know Orange Box was available for PS3, my bad.
Also... I don't care if it fazes you? I'm just explaining what the deal was. O.o
As far as "HL3" goes, apparently the HL2 "episodes" were originally meant to be HL3. So, in effect, they are Half-Life 3. Not that we'll ever see the end of the game. XD

I wasn't trying to defend Microsoft or anything, just pointing out that one of the things Meer had said (you might not have your console if it breaks down) was actually incorrect. I would never be so retarded as to think that the 360's failure rate is not a gigantic pile of bullshit, it's one of the reasons I held off buying one for so long. I had hoped the Elites might have less of a failure rate, as was reported. lol@self

What surprises me is the lack of a class-action lawsuit.
Sony got raped for the unreliability of the PS2 console (for which reason I got two new consoles for free) and it's nowhere near as bad as the 360's track record.

I'm not a coding expert, but I highly doubt the complication is senseless. Sony is not amateurish.
What I meant by the fazes is that those concerns don't really sound all that bad. I mean, Blizzard (if I remember right) kinda made the same complaints (along with the demand for a price cut), and Sony essentially said, 'stfu'.
I mean, clearly they know better than I do. I don't have the same information or perspective that they do. But it's not as though the PS3 community is significantly less than the 360 community. Too, I'll bet a higher ratio of PS3 owners will buy a solid game than 360 owners.
I've heard that, yes, the Playstations are more difficult to code for than the 'standard' of Microsoft, but this complication also allows a greater depth, such that, all else being equal, the Playstation can be pushed harder than a corresponding Microsoft system.
Could be wrong. Again, I'm just parroting what other people who do know what they're talking about have said. I couldn't explain it. Maybe Waff can.
And yes. It makes me terribly sad that Valve is anything but punctual. =(

The big difference is that now Microsoft are paying for it bigtime by having to repair everyone's consoles free of charge, given how ridiculous it all got. The number of PS2s fucking up was just unridiculous enough so that I had to buy a new one myself when mine decided to stop working. At least in the UK.
