PS3 Slim
#1
The new PS3 was officially announced today. $299, shipping in September. Old PS3 models cut to $299 as well.

Looks neat. I kind of liked the glossy look of the fat one though.

Yeah the older version was sexy. This one less so.

It does not make me disappointed I got one of the original versions.

When in doubt: It was sarcasm.

It's weird. This one looks better in that it's not fat. But the other one looked... cool.

Kind of like a refrigerator from the future in the best sense of that analogy.

I like the way it looks.

I like both of them. The first one took some getting used to. This one is pretty, in that it is simple.

Still, I'm worried about overheating issues. PS2 slims had problems with that when they came out. Haven't had a problem with overheating on my fat PS3, but then, the fan-vent in that thing is humongous.

And the price drop? Beautiful. Even though it's too late for me to take advantage of it, more people will be, and that means more people online, which means newbies to wipe =D

My PS2 slim sat on top of my broken PS2 fat, so I never had heat issues. But I would limit playtime on GTA: SA because I knew it was a popular culprit for overheating the system.

The PS3 slim, on the other hand, still looks fairly big. Big enough to house a fan, I mean.

Are there any other differences besides the size? Point being, if there's nothing to lose besides space for buying a fat PS3, I might try and grab one of them cheaper.

Yeah. Maybe I'm just so used to seeing the car of a console I have now.

The PS3 Slim apparently won't have the ability to house a third-party operating system (so no Linux). It'll also apparently have the added ability to utilize HDMI-CEC Bravia sync (whatever the hell that is).

The $299 slim will be a 120GB HD. I'm not sure what's going to happen to the price of the 80GB and 160GB fatties.

EDIT: Apparently, there'll be a 250GB Slim as well. More expensive, of course. Perhaps $349.

I might hazard a guess that, like the PSP as it came out with later versions, it'll have more protection against homebrewing and such as well. Curse me for buying a new PSP! Chances are, then, I'll try to buy a console from someone else who's going slim.

That'd be the smart move. Just make sure you do the research on each version before you buy one. Some have PS2 emulation, some don't. One (the original 20GB) doesn't have a wireless adapter included.

There is no homebrew to speak of for the PS3. It is locked up pretty tight against running unsigned code.

Not a fan. I'd get an old one, this reminds me of a genesis

And what in the blue hell is wrong with that? I still have my Genesis!

Nothing wrong with the genesis, but new consoles are supposed to look cool, and that looks retarded.
