The Room of Spirit and Time

Bil Baer Jaxx Wrote:The last page or so of this thread was devoted to thrashing Marks for suggesting a vote, something which would show exactly who is in favor of this and who isn't.

That is definitely not why Marks was "thrashed."

Guys. Think of it this way.

If in DBZ Canon, transformations were regarded basically as abilities, which you can't know how they were, because it was an anime, not a game, the RoSaT idea that's being proposed is perfectly fine.

The ROSAT is a place where you can spend a year in a single day, correct? And Goku and company entered it for a year to master the Super Saiyan state or surpass it, correct? That could be thought of as changing an ability. You can't be sure exactly what they gave up in order to get it. Maybe Goku had some absurd power he didn't ever use, so he gave that up. Maybe he got something from the afterlife, or something like that. Or maybe the canon ROSAT just adds a new ability to the ones inside. But of course, adding a new ability wouldn't work for us, because of the game mechanic, so the next best thing has been added.

Now, you seem to be missing the point about something. "But they came out a lot stronger." Yes. Because they TRAINED inside there. For a year in the span of a day. That's called EFFORT. It's nothing about the room itself. They could have just slept and eaten for that year and they would have come out a LOT weaker.

Thinking of it in RPG terms, they paid the entry, entered, and began training to give up, say, Random Ability #1, for a transformation. (It doesn't work that way in this RPG, but that's irrelevant. You could say they just did it for...Telekinesis.) And they began training. And by training, I mean posting. A lot. They trained there for a whole bloody year. And there's nothing stopping you from posting twice a day about the whole year you're inside the ROSAT, and all the changes that occur and leave you without the original ability, and with your new choice. That's exactly what Goku & Co. would have done if they were characters. There's nothing mystical about this point of the ROSAT, it was all their effort, no magical training being done faster.

QED, the ROSAT fits. Not perfectly, but enough to merit the name.

Chase is kinda getting the angle that we viewed it from.

However, I'd rather let Alex keep trying to fight the man and make random insults about my responses in some form or another in hopes of browbeating us into changing it.

The best part of all this is: We can't even look at the responses and even have a discussion about name changes. Why? Because it takes time to do so, and while we are discussing, we get the occasional and so rare person extrapolating whatever possible meanings they can from our commentary to prove that we 1- are absolute morons that are just destroying this place and this person is our only salvation but "EVERYONE" agrees with them, 2- are absolute nazis here to hold the man down and call you sheep and no dissenting opinions here because rejecting an opinion we disagree with is automatically the same thing is spitefully kicking the lowly peons and showing them who's boss.

In other words, let's all relax and let us reevaluate and discuss it instead of looking for any reason possible to release some of the built up workday stress on the internets.

At this point, I won't be surprised if we just remove the entire thing and never implement anything for the ROSAT again, to be honest. At least "everyone" (poorly chosen exaggeration intentional) would be utterly thrilled that they once again showed "the man" who was boss. (totally off the wall comment for humor only, I don't actually believe that stupid shit).

EDIT: TLDR VERSION FOR ALEXANDER BELOW!!!!!

Ugh, its still not short enou

That line doesn't work in bars, so don't bother.

If we come up with another idea for the RoSaT we can make this as a separate room or rename it then. Either way, this is the current form of the Room.

For now it's not going to change. Sorry.

Sad no way of the HBTC going back to the old way of just getting extra stuff to your stats? This is interesting too but...eh.

How would you propose we give out extra stuff to people's stats?

If you RP in the ROSAT you're already getting CA. Letting people get more than 100% in their stats trivializes Inner Strength, and we're not going to do that.

I don't really see anything else we could do.

Once every six months +10xp. Required 1 week or three to five solid posts in the RoSaT.

Oh God, not this again.

Okay, well, the response to just being handed free XP has already been posted earlier in this thread, I think, so I'll leave it to you, Cain, to go read up on it, but I have to ask you this:

Requiring three to five "solid posts" to get 10 XP is silly. Three to five posts should give you 10 or more XP already.

And every six months? That seems like such an unnecessary thing to shoehorn in, if it's going to be that long of a delay. And I just know people will go "WARGHBLE BUT IF IT'S SO SMALL Y NOT?"

Here's why: just because something is small doesn't mean it's okay to have it. I don't stick every small dick I can find in my anus not because it would give me great physical discomfort, but because it would enormously complicate my personal life.

Similarly, one shouldn't add in tons of "neat" but small details in any game system for "flavor" because it can lead to clutter, dead weight, and misunderstandings.

I don't know if this is relevant at all, but Inner Strength seems more like a technique than an ability (in retrospect). You can easily roleplay your character as being stronger than a certain group of people, having it as an ability slot accomplishes nothing.

RolePlaying being stronger and actually being stronger are two completely different teams.

It kinda depends. For instance, I might have a higher strength level than Kaden thanks to Inner Strength, but because he's far and away higher in CA than me, I don't think it matters in the end.

That's not what I'm talking about. If two people have the same CA, but one of them has Inner Strength, they're getting more out of their CA in terms of "stats" than their opponent is.

That's not situational. It will be the same every time.

That doesn't mean they'll win the fight, but statistically, that's how it works.

Eh, after having it on this char I have to say I think Inner Strength kinda sucks unless you just really, really gotta have that extra pinch of *stat* and even then, it doesn't do you much good except against other players to say you have higher stats, which again only matters if CA is comparable.

The worst thing, however, about it is that you're missing out on all the cool funnery to be had by picking pretty much anything else, because I might not be all that creative inbeing unable to think of a technique with IS, but regardless I'm pretty sure it's easier to come up with half a dozen techs and RP moves with almost any other Ability, so it's kind of an opportunity cost thing.

Sure, you get to have well-rounded stats with one being pretty high, but take a look at the abilities list and see what you're missing!
