What are the rules and restrictions for Chatbox?

I've seen arguments and such and jokes in it, and I have heard of Jack being.... whatever... a few times...

I had an incident... and was blocked for a few days... and it annoyed me because I was wanting to talk to Frozen or another... and couldn't// When I realized I was blocked I figured someone thought I was drinking(Hadnt drank since last Wednesday) and did it for 24 hours and such... but I realized it wasn't as I thoguht.. and I explained what happened and asked to be unblocked from it...

I never had any malicious intent in what I said, ubut I was blocked... and now again, it seems so is BBJ...

Yet someone that doesn't Rp here anymore, sits there and laughs at BBJ... and calls him gay.... and isn't blocked?

What are and where are the rules?

Yeah, that was actually my bad. I discovered a new, easy way to ban people from the ChatBox and tested it out on the first couple of names I saw. Then I went to bed and forgot about it.

I figured me being blocked was just a joke, I doubt I did anything "wrong".

Anyone who was banned within the last few days was banned for no reason.

The intent was not to keep anyone banned, but that's what happened and I apologize.

What if a staffer blocks someone as a joke and the player doesn't find it funny?

I believe all staff members can block/unblock.

I Said what I said light heartedly.. About never hearinf anyone say jovail tll then and then said anyone that spoke it was gay, then said Cali was gay...and Are(SP) challenged the issue.... I was being light hearted and made a reply...I left the site and came back... to the computer, seeing the website in the chat box.

I refreshed an no more Chat box .

I remembered laughs about BBJ being blocked or what ever before and asked Vad if Chat could be blocked... after 48 hours I Again asked, and this time explained myself, to Kaden

And was unblocked.

But I see a potential issue...with a pissed staffer Blocking a player for no other reason then being pissed off at them.........

EDIT: I don't actually see what more you are looking for here. Are you essentially requesting that only Admins have the ability to ban for chatbox, that it be debated on by the entire staff and have a structured ruleset with harsh penalties, that it be up to member vote, or what? Just throwing a few grasping ideas out there trying to figure out what constructive goal you are trying to get us to.

The best I can say about it is that we just trust the staffers not to abuse the ability (and by abuse, we define that more as "Frequent abuse" because what some people take as a joke others take as "abusive display of power", and its not always intended that way.) If we (as in staff) feel that a staffer is doing it too often, even as a joke, and are getting enough complaints, then we'll keep it in mind when deciding how to handle the situation, but that doesn't mean that we are obligated to handle it as any specific member might be hoping either.

I don't really know what more to add.

That couldn'tve been said any better. I guess like any democratic thing you can protest, but it's usually all in jest coming from the staffers.. No one is taking your freedom in this case, as you've already signed yourself over to the moderation of the moderators by joining.

That's actually the worst answer i've heard, ever. So if a staffer does something as a joke and the member doesn't think it's funny, they have to suck it up. But if a member does something they think is funny, but staff thinks is offensive and rude, they get warned or scolded or whatnot? That's basically the gist of it?

I don't think there's need for a serious change but a simple 'report if it's actual admin abuse'. I can't believe that such comments are presented at a site where there's so helpful mods with the newcomers but the second they're in the general attitude changes to 'fuck you and get used to it'.

You're talking specifically about the chatbox, like I couldn't, for instance, ban your actual account for a laugh. Not that I would, mind you, but it seems to me to be a bit more important than a little aside at the top of the site.

I don't really know where all these 'whateva, I do what I want' answers are coming from. Ultimately if you feel you are being abused as a member (say it's a recurring joke that you're not laughing at) then report it to a staffer you trust. You shouldn't just have to deal because someone with power's being an asshat (although we certainly do have to do that in real life).

It's the chatbox. It's not really vital to your ability to roleplay here so yeah it's easier to be removed from there if you are being a problem.

If you want to address someone one-on-one I suggest instant messengers or private messages, if you want to post song lyrics I'm pretty sure we have a thread in the asylum for just that. Chat bans are unlikely to be for any serious length of time so if you find yourself without chat abilities just send a PM to a staffer (I'm a good option for that) and just coolly ask to be unbanned.

If a staff member is showing poor judgment skills in choosing who and when to ban then that will be dealt with separately.
