EDIT: The Poland reference being 1939, Italy getting kicked would be our affairs there before Normandy. Liberating France would be Operation Overlord more popularly known as the Normandy Invasion.

Yeah, but WWI and WWII are usually linked together. They're seen as a bundle because our sanctions on Germany after WWI created the situational advantage for Hitler to take power in the 30's.

WWII was a direct result of the recession and other factors, yes. The author just continued the "war" part of the story and merged into WWII.

Russia made our invasion possible actually. The battle of Stalingrad was a huge turning point in the war.

Well thats conjecture. Who knows how events would have fallen then. Germany would almost certainly have had most of Europe when the war ended anyways. Depends on your definition of winning and losing. The point that the Eastern front was where the real action was at though stands. I always find it amusing how when most who talks about the war over here mumbles something about Stalingrad and the fall of Berlin when talking about the Soviet's influence.
