Not to throw more on the staff to-do list, but what do you guys think of a Chubbs Rank list that gets updated monthly? It could function like a small news letter with small tidbits on what characters have been doing what, and then be posted in the news forum.

Also, in terms of encouraging activity, I was wondering if their could be an inactive penalty. When a character is active for the week, they get a certain amount of TP to add to their character. What if (unless previously approved to be MIA), characters received a TP penalty for weeks of inactivity? Maybe not a full weeks worth, maybe just a lump some of ten, or maybe 1/2 their normal TP. On one hand this would likely just force people to post the minimum 300 words to avoid the penalty, but on the other I firmly believe that getting people to take a few minutes to just sit down and write something, anything, is better than nothing AND, more often than not, will lead to future inspiration and excitement.

Just some ideas as I keep putting off going to bed, even though i have work in 4 hours...

EDIT: And with the rank list, I suggest we only include the people who have been active the majority of the month (training 3/4 weeks)

I like the rank list, and a similar idea was brought up in the staff forum.

I've never been a fan of penalizing someone for not RolePlaying. Mostly just my personal philosophy. More than once I've been part of an RPG where they did something similar. I would have real life get in the way of writing for a week, and then come back and find that in addition to not getting to train for the week that I was gone, I was going to lose next week's training too, because I had to "pay off" the penalty.

Hopefully we'd be able to come up with something better than that, but it would still be frustrating, and who knows what can come up that would keep people from RPing.

Yeah, inactive -penalties- are stupid. They're already missing out on TP; there's no reason to take something away. The rest of the stuff seems pretty cool.

Well, I was thinking that staff could excuse penalties but that could digress into a cycle of members making up excuses to avoid penalties and wasting staff's time.

What is the official staff stance on back collecting TP? I know that it is discouraged, but say someone RPs once or twice every two weeks without training for a month or more. Are they allowed to back collect on the trainings they missed?

Yeah, if you're active you get TP.

We're more for rewarding activity than penalizing inactivity.

The official stance is that collecting missed training is fine.

We just ask that the member collecting missed work link to their active RP for the period that they missed and the training thread (if applicable) for the week they missed so we can verify.

Just try not to get carried away. If people start with nonsense like "but i missed teh training one week 3 monhts ago but now i cant find my rp plz give me points" we'll probably just tell them to get over it.

Would the rank list be a kind of summary of the current 'major players' on the site? Kind of like who's pwning peoples ass and making moves in storylines and stuff?

It could be as involved as the person who updates it wants it to be. From past experiences, I'd say keep it simple. As in:

Here's the current rankings for "active members" (active members having trained 3/4 or more of the weeks in the month)
And here is an overview of what those characters have been doing.
For example, "Aqua is on earth, with the Dissolute blah blah..."

To keep it up to date would be a major chore, but it would be pretty cool.

I agree, that's why I say do it monthly. I don't want anyone to get burned out doing it. Heck, I might even go ahead and do a draft version when I return to school if it hasn't been done by then..

No offense, but this shouldn't be left up to staff. I think you should make a team of people that like to read and keep up with the IC side of Chubbs. And me.

This sounds reasonable to me. That way, all staff would have to do is calculate the active rankings, and then copy/ paste the updates. Add it all together and make it look pretty.

From the way it's sounding it would be categorized, based not just off of "Look At The Awesome People". Maybe I read it wrong, my suggestion was aimed at the Active Members idea.

And I'm telling you, it would be brutal for staff to have to go through and read and write up summaries about all the interesting things going on in chubbs. Many an RPG has tried similar things in the form of "newsletters" and they phail, hard.

It's a great idea, but like a lot of great ideas requires a shit load of work. A team would be a good idea to get this accomplished, or random people could contribute when they had the time. Like "Just read -insert name-'s Personal Roleplay, it was pretty good I'd say. *Summary*. Read and grade as you see fit."

I don't see how ranking people based on member-generated summaries of their goings on wouldn't give people a sense of connection. The staff would still be coming up with the "ranking."

For the purpose of simplicity, this would probably just one general ranking of "awesome stuff" as opposed to different categories.

Do the Top-5 and maybe throw in a couple of honorable mentions.
